I hadn't even noticed they were gone. How does he remove those posts?
Anyway, I think I will go in an edit the replies I made before I discovered what a butthead this guy is. Then watch him remove those edited replies.
Off to do some editing.........

There's a "Report Spam" button that deletes posts. There's some sort of criteria to getting it, one of which is, I believe, mental stability.
Given that, I don't see why Muffy don't have one.
OK, maybe there are a few
occassional little lapses.

I found the criteria. Minimum 50 posts but more importantly 90 days as a registered user before we are allowed to see and use the "report spam" button. Muffy, did you used to have another screen ID here and that is maybe why you show as just registered late April?
I do believe that Riv is using the spam button to censor replies he doesn't care for and that is supposed to be an abuse of the power and ultimately get that power revoke. Wonder how long that process actually takes? Anyway, I won't waste my time with this yahoo anymore.

Sure, a bunch (well, a few, really). I'm still searching for a really cool screen name (all the good ones are taken, like -SWS, rested gal, The Butcher from Bayonne) so i just keep kinda floundering around, hoping one will pop into mind.

The spam button has some conditions, one of which is that it can be lost for misuse. However, each of us may edit our own posts.
Here is the original spam button thread:
Johnny Goodman Fights Spam!
Modifications have been made since then, but are generally minor. The spam problem has been greatly reduced since we have been entrusted with this power.

P.S. I know that some DME providers, sleep labs that loan out machines, etc. have had to destroy the machines if they have lived in a smoking home..

They don't have to. Just offer them to those who smoke.
Smoking or non-smoking section?

Riv,
Whether a person smokes or not shouldn't be THE measure of their acceptability.

Would PurSleep (fragrances)eliminate cigarette particles from the air?

Nope!
Perfumes remove nothing from the air, just add. They might temporarily mask the smoke odor, but removing the source is the real answer.
Do you use the white "microfilter" in conjunction with the coarser gray ones? That would stand a better chance of removing "cigarette particles". But I suspect it would have no effect on the odor.
I think your two choices are to find a non-smoking girl, or to continue being a smoker right along with your current girlfriend.

Thanks for the honest answer.
I'm no longer a smoker and if smoking comes along with this lady then I'll have to put up with smoking.

Congrads on quitting. I quit May 10, 1992 after smoking for about 20 yrs. As a reformed smoker I can tell you that residual smoke smell will get into EVERYTHING. I also think that a reformed smoker is far more sensitized to the smell as well.
I suspect that you already know this.
My wife and I like to buy and sell small inexpensive antiques and such. We go to alot of estate sales etc. You can almost always tell, just by looking at an item if it has been in the presence of a smoker.
Just some food for thought.
Good luck,
Dave

Hi Riv,
I have never "smoked" . . I grew up having a hard time breathing because of my Father's smoking. I would frequently awaken about 10:00 p.m., feeling I was strangling . . then I would realize I could smell his smoking. I have had life-long nasal/sinus problems that my PCP attributes to living with a smoker and breathing second-hand fumes.
My Father said he started smoking at age 13, and spent the rest of his life ( death age 62) trying to quit. His parents were in their 90's when he died. The day before his death I had gone to the Dr. with him. He told him that smoking had ruined his lungs and his heart.
Your girl friend may have already made her choice. She wants both cigarettes and you. Can you live with that? Do you plan on having children? My sister-in-law is a heavy smoker, she is also a mother to a young girl with chronic asthma. She feels guilty because the doctor attributes her daughter's asthma to her smoking - but she says, she cannot quit. If her smoking bothers you at this point - it might be a major cause of disputes if you married. Heck of a way to assure your married happiness.
I wish you the best in making your decision. Keep the forum posted. JJan
As to the effects of second-hand smoking on your equipment - I haven't read scientific information on that.

Riv,
First of all, I apologize if I came accross a bit heavy. I was hearing the concerns of an "Anti" infiltrating a forum on sleep apnea. But, from you previous posts, you are indeed an apnea patient, and smoking is just a side issue.
Once I saw that the war-like tobacco issue was becoming a problem in relationships, I gave up on the active search for Ms Right. Yes, participating in the quitting process together may have some benefits if there is already a strong supportive relationship. However, the quiting process is tenuous. For those who quit on their own the success rate is about 15% after a year. ....30% for those who use use a program. They now claim 40% with Chantix or Buproprion, but there are adverse effects: major depression and thoughts of suicide. The quitting process is now considered a lifelong effort. But, does the reasonable person really want to spend their time, emotional energy and money on programs that just don't work.
So, given the dismal success rate, if your partner does quit (and becomes a rabid anti-smoker), what happens if you experience some major stress in your life and you start smoking again? My point is that the tobacco issue is a problem for relationships. It's contentious. There is too much social force, an not enough decent solutions. Yes, I'd like to see a better analysis of the problem and solutions that work for everone. (I do that in the research areana.) Then I'll resume the search for Ms. Right. Hang in there ladies.
In the mean time, finding better solutions to the sleep apnea issue does show some promise.

Don't kid yourself. If you have someone smoking regularly in your home, you ARE a smoker.
Riv wrote:if smoking comes along with this lady then I'll have to put up with smoking.
Sounds like your mind's made up. Best of luck to both of you...
