I too would like to borrow/rent a 420.I got the prescription, just would like to know if it would help. My problem is that my Remstar auto doesn t respond quickly enough to clusters of apneas I experience every nite for 1-2hrs. My AHI is over 10 every nite, usually in the teens. I have tried everything since I got it in Feb. From what info I have gathered, the 420 can be set to respond immediately to these clusters instead of incrementally as the Remstar does. Your wife seems to be very pressure sensitive, as 9 is pretty low. If you can afford to buy the 420, than I guess its worth a try. Kinda doubt that an insurance company would pay if they saw her numbers.Even with an AHi of 4-6, she should be feeling pretty good. I don't think lowering it to the 1+ range would make a huge difference.

I would also like to rent a 420 auto. My story is similar to loonluver's, Try as I may, I cannot get below 7-12 AHI. I feel better than with no machine (AHI 47) but still feel like kaka. Brain fog and memory loss are still unfortunate companions.
Willsucceed's story is hopeful. The Remstar auto I've been using for the past few months has been great in giving me the data I was so curious about, and I've tried many of the tricks I've read about here to lower the AHI. I was titrated at 14 originally, then later at 11. But straight CPAP at over 10 gives me unbearable aerophagia. I was hoping the auto would keep the mean pressure low enough to tackle the air in stomach problem and keep my airway open. It doesn't seem to do either very well.
Maybe finding a machine is as personal as finding a mask that works?
