Arizona-Willie, I had the exact same problem breakage on my CME50. Taped it back together, but the alarm wire broke when is was apart hanging in pieces on my finger.

Back after traveling, tried the oximeter for a second time - had two nice desats overnight between 2 and 3AM - O2 dropped to 85%, heart rate up a bit (only like 10bpm though) - just doesn't appear that my typical apnea event while on CPAP has much impact on my 02 levels. The data from the cpap says my apneas are average 14 seconds. I guess it's telling the truth.

I kind of like the idea that my apneas are mostly short. I was thinking of trying a few hours on Saturday night without the cpap, just to see the numbers on the oximeter, but I find I honestly cannot sleep without it. I guess I am just acutely aware of the whole 'not breathing and waking' now.

Hey, it may have bottom of the line quality, but it has bottom of the line pricing too.

I have one that is coming in the mail any day now, I hope it is not a FPOS.

I use paper medical tape to hold the one I have now to my finger. FYI.

I also have thought of skipping APAP to see what the SPo2 results will be and have decided against it. Maybe a brief nap could allow a mini SP02 test...but I am more supportive of using PAP with naps too!!! I can look at the Pulse Ox data and typically know when I've have an apnea confirmed by the ResScan software........I'm impressed at the cross validation of the two. It's additionally helpful in monitoring asthma. I've had a cold the last week and have consistently had lower 02 data.....I suspect with a little trial and error, I'll be able to predict impending asthma exacerbation with the drop in the baseline SP02 bumping up asthma treatment for more effective treatment. I think the cute little toy is more than just fun!!!!

I find that if the therapy is more effective that the ox level doesn't drop lower, I just have more events. Once the ox level hits a certain level I shake my head to clear the airway.

Last night I used the oximeter and cpap until 6AM. Took off the mask, slept another hour. I would swear that I didn't snore in that hour, slept ok. Woke with a headache (uh oh). Downloaded the data from the oximeter. From 11PM to 6AM, I saw only one event where I was down to 90% (over 7 hours). Quite unremarkable data. From 6AM to 7AM it was 'HOLY CRAP' - the smooth line for heart and 02 turned into the Swiss alps. In that one hour, I had constant desats, with 15 or so down to 0.85. Heart rate didn't get crazy high, but still was jumping from 50 to around 95 with the big desats.

I guess I have sleep apnea.

I guess cpap works.

I still have a headache.

I confirmed something I needed to know - were my remaining episodes (AHI of 5) on cpap as severe as my episodes without cpap? Were they longer? Shorter? Obviously, with an AHI of 5 for three nights, I see only a couple of desats. Off the machine, they are constant. So my conclusion is that not only is the number of events far lower (75 --> under 5), but the severity are also lower.

Wowie zowie, you sacrificed in the name of science Now you/we know how much XPAP helps (and now you know NOT to do that again...but it is nice to know the machine is well worth the effort)

I guess I have sleep apnea.

Yeah

I guess cpap works.

I still have a headache.

You were running on the wild side during that XPAP-less hour

My CMS50E oximeter was dead on arrival (or at least the USB cable was dead on arrival) so I had to pack the whole thing up and send it back...hopefully my replacement oximeter and accessories will work when they arrive. I think it will be interesting to see what my oxygen levels are like with all my clusters of events
