Below clearly shows the pressure changing throughout the night. I have the M Series Auto w/CFLEX and my pressure setting range is
between 9 - 12 cms. So to answer your question, as others have stated, it is false. Your DME is a moron.

Starr, As you thought all along the DME made an incorrect statement.

If those are your actual pressure needs, I think you will be disappointed in how the machines handle them.

I need 8.5 cm on my sides and 19 cm on my back. If I set the pressure range to 8.5 to 20 cm, it will of course start out at 8.5 cm. If I roll to my back, I will start having apneas right away and the machine will start slowly raising the pressure. After about an hour of apneas the machine will have the pressure up to maybe 14 or 15. By then I usually wake up feeling poorly and turn the machine off and then back on so it will cycle down to 8.5 cm. Then I roll back onto my side.

IMO, the algorithm is too slow in raising the pressure if you have a wide range of pressures.

A very smart (and very expensive) system would detect which position you are sleeping in and ramp the pressure up and down fairly quickly as you switch sleeping positions.

Sorry about the problems with the DME.

One thing is for sure if it were not for this site we would be at their mercy weather it is lack of knowledge or lack of profit. This site should be required reading for new CPAP users. I am not sure I would require a prescription for a CPAP machine but I would require a specific amount of recurring training on this site.

Good point. That law needs to be changed and the machines should be sold at Walmart and Best Buy.

Just talked to another patient who was sent home with the machine pressure range set to 5 to 20. He was told there was a big difference between his supine and side pressure needs but not to worry the machine would adjust to whatever his needs were.

Walmart could not do any worse but would be much cheaper.
