Well, AUTO doesn't always mean YOU have data capability at all.
In Finland the data is only for doctors (unless you get the clinical manual from here ).

The survey probably isn't accurate for the genarl public because of the pool. People who would frequent this board are interested in CPAP technology and treatment, and many are self-titrating, so naturally they would tend to have the more sophistocated machines. It may very well be that MOST people have compliance only machines. They are taking their therapy and going about their daily business but not members of this board. I'm not saying this is true, but what is true is that the poll is only a survey of this board, and in no way represents the distribution of CPAP machines amongst the general public.

It is possible, I think, that one day the bottom line of cpap machine will be a robot manufactured & assembled. probably a bilevel auto, & a fully data capable machine. The right design & manufacturing can reduce costs to the extent that producing variations adds to the cost whilst the basic machine needs all the features built into the design / assembly in order to keep mfg costs to a minimum. IBM has manufactured models of computers this way for many many years (sell customer complete computer & disable features (processors, memory etc) , then activate them for a cost).

When I 1st pulled apart an S8 I was sure it was robot assembled so I asked Resmed (I had to go out to Bella Vista to get my recall machine swapped). The guy there told me that no they still had a production line & teams of workers assembled the machine. In looking at how it is assembled, I am certain it was designed for robot assembly. I think I would be a bit worried if I worked on that production line.

That is like a Sunday driver out on the Expressway ... probably ok where you are in NE ... but out west here they will get run over
