I mentioned writing to senators, congressman, the insurance commissioner, she just said "its your stamp, we did nothing wrong or illegal."
Thats fine, cpap.com can have ALL my business now.
I think I will drop off my payment in person monday, and, im thinking,..... in pennies, all 3000 of them.
think they will count them before i get a receipt ???
my only question now, should it be in bulk or wrapped ???
Ooooooo......and a "blow job", too? (she blew you off)
Lucky you.

Ya...if my co-insurance were any higher...it would probably make sense to build up an order and get it from cpap.com
I got my replacement 6' hose last month, and the insurance statement recently showed up....
6' respironics performance tubing. Insurance billed $57, no write-off, my share $11.40.
while, cpap.com's price is $14.95....directhomemedical's price is $10.75.
Though there's other stuff I would want to get from cpap.com, so I could easily reach free-shipping. Of course all that extra stuff kind of makes DME okay for these things, for now.
Now if only performance tubing came in longer lengths. I think an 8' one would work better....

The old hose would make a nice bulk wrapper for the pennies, wouldn't it?

Dpursi wrote:Did you consider bringing this complaint to your insurance company. Just why do they allow a charge so far above the market price for such an item. Its a hose! Since you not only pay the inflated co-pay you also pay for the insurance. Your state has an insurance commisioner and you have a congressman. I would do more than rant.
This issue of insurance for CPAP in the US is different from most parts of the world.
Here in Aust we get no such 'apparently' involved insurance cover.
To be bluntly honest, at times it looks like a grand scheme to cycle money in such
a way that all the piggies with their snouts in the trough, get a great feed while
the end user gets a depleted wallet. I am guessing that govt money goes into the
mix somewhere along the chain.
The over pricing of CPAP components seems excessive to me and yet I consider
myself sympathetic to business in general.

Go to
http://www.cpapxchange.com/cpap-tubing- ... index.html and get the longest one. Put CXC in the coupon code box when you check out. If you order before Easter ends it's free shipping too. That's $5.75 for a 10-Foot "Extra Long" Smooth Bore CPAP/BiPAP Tubing/hose. $5.75 total!

Ha! I love it!
If it were me, I'd make it a big sack of loose pennies. (Why make it easy for them to count 'em?) Bring a good book to read while you wait for your receipt.

Hmmmm......if the new hose is unused, still in its original package, I don't think I'd take them 3000 pennies.
I'd take them the hose, let them know it's a return, get a receipt confirming the fact that you returned the item, give them about a week, check with the insurance company to see if they have processed the credit, if not, call the DME and ask them about the insurance company credit and if they give you the run around, speak to that person who gave you the blow job, and let her know that by not processing the credit to the insurance company she's now done something illegal as well as immoral....
Put that in your pipe and smoke it bay-bay.........
(all of that said, they may have 30 days to do the processing, but I'd sure see to it that I let the insurance company know that the hose has been returned and they should be getting a return notification so they can get their $55 back!!!)
Just a thought, but I'd not accept the hose at that price!!!! (HAHAHAHA I'm such a devious SOB......then turn around, walk in the front door and pay them $15 cash and carry )
In my case, I have no co-pay, so I never see what the DME rips off the insurance company for.....I just get my stuff when I order it.......
cheers

PS -- I'm with dreamstalker......You have to assume that a congressman or Senator would give a damn before thinking it would make any kind of difference.......Ya really think so??? Not a chance!!!!!!!!!

you made me think about something, monday first thing, i am gonna call around and see if i can find the same hose locally (at a decent price), go pick it up, return it to them as if it were the original, and demand the refund to the insurance, and to credit my account. CASE CLOSED.

Loose change. make them count it. Ins. pays $18 for a filter for my machine. They cost 3 or 4 bucks elsewhere.

One thing you all failed to mention here is the INSURANCE company NEGOTIATED their prices with the home care provider.
It is your insurance. You should know your benefits.
I take insulin and buy it at walmart for $23 a bottle when my ins co charges $30 if i use insurance. Freaking weird.

Some do and some don't......as has been reported here over the years.
The problem IS insurance. Prices are jacked up when people use their insurance provider to pay for things. This also applies to other areas. Get an auto windshield replaced for cash money and it'll be much less than if it's submitted to insurance. Same situation with other things that can be covered by insurance.
When people say some variation of "My insurance paid for it", it is actually that person and all the other people who are paying insurance premiums who pay the inflated prices.

I got my medicare "we paid this amount" statement today. The DMS charged $225 for a FFM Quattro. Medicare approved $170.72, but paid them $28.58. All I really needed was the gasket, but I guess they could't charge enough for that and sent me the whole thing.
