ChrisC wrote:Sorry, plr66. I owe you an apology. I'd read something that someone else had posted a few days ago about just 'slipping on a mask and not worrying about the numbers" and mistakenly attributed the quote to you. I read back and it was totally someone else's.
Ha--boy, were you
ever mistaken about that! I was early into responding to the guy on that thread, and not in a gentle way, I believe! I'm a daily data-freak and obsessed with keeping my therapy effective.
Not to worry, Chris.
ChrisC wrote:I took your OP the wrong way: I read it as critical towards people that have started their 'own' threads. I'd replied early this morning, right after getting up, and did not read your message as it was intended. Thank-you for taking the time to point out that a personal thread may not be the best way to gain attention to a specific problem. I can see now that is completely the message you were trying to convey.
I very much appreciate the grace with which you responded here, Chris. Thanks, and glad you do see that no mal intent was meant at all. I am not even looking to make this a poll, although I am not sure some folks get that yet. I can't even imagine a reason for an objection against the blog-type of thread. So I hope that this thread can now end with it just having been intended as a thoughtful comment to the original blogger of these personally-named threads.

This has been an extremely helpful thread IMHO. There are very clearly pros and cons to using a diary or blog-style thread. It's apparent to me this brand new style of cpaptalk thread is
highly beneficial for some of our readership. That's all it takes!
This message board and its high volume has repeatedly been flagged by newcomers as being disjointed and difficult to follow. And now we have a new format that seems to perfectly suit some thinking and reading styles among our members. And that style of thread is very easy and beneficial for some newcomers to latch onto. On that basis, I would like to extend my congratulations and gratitude to Kenny for having been creative enough to introduce a new tool in our communication arsenal around here.
CONGRATS AND THANKS, TATTOOYU, FOR A CREATIVE SOLUTION THAT CLEARLY HELPS OTHER CPAPTALK MEMEBERS!!!

I sit in front of a computer all day at work and don't really feel like or have the time to spend hours in front of one at home. I need to be a little selective in what I read for the sake of time. I tend to hit on the topics that resonate with what I'm personally experiencing - a heading that catches my attention at the moment I'm experiencing the issue is what I'll read. I'm sure I'm missing some good information in the perpetual threads, but for me, unfortunately I just don't have the time to read through them. I don't have a problem with them one way or another - they're just not something that I have time to read through.

There is no reason to have a perptual thread. If you like those massive threads, you can do a much better job of this by starting a new thread with each issue and providing a link to the previous thread in your first post of the thread. That way anyone who likes these never-ending stories can easily read your whole story, and those who are only interested in certain issues can check in just on the ones they want based on the subject.
I have a sleep blog. If I wanted anyone to see my whole story I would just post a link to the blog. A blog is the right solution for that, because then people can make comments to the post they are responding to, and it keeps the comments with the original post. Get a blog! They're free, and you can post a link here if you really want people to read it.
If you're doing the perpetual thread thing, consider that when you post a new problem to that thread, there may be people with an answer to that problem who aren't reading mega-threads. Just a thought..................................

I tend to agree. I see a lot of TMI in posts and many of these perpetual threads follow that trend.
Hell, someone felt the need to go into great detail about a puking episode the other day. I'm sorry I stumbled upon that.
I prefer the topic specific posts as opposed the the diary posts... but that's just me. I don't click on the diaries very much.
To each his/her own, I guess.

I think that's precisely the point.
Lobbying for a single thread style in such a diverse crowd is like lobbying for a single CPAP pressure----that just won't manage to neatly serve all human diversity either. Now ice cream is an altogether different issue... There's absolutely no reason that flavors other than vanilla need to be served.
Those 31-flavor bastards!

I have to reiterate that if a new problem arises that isn't specifically part of my progress, I do start a new thread.
