There were charges for the neurologist to read the report (co-pay $47.22) and DME company ($50.00) but I don't have those actual charges with me.

Xena

Holy smoke !

Abusively overpriced.

I had a split night poysomnography study done at a local hospital sleep center on 6/17/2008.
Cost without insurance would have been approx. $2000.00, but my insurance was really good at that time so only paid a $10.00 copay.
This did not include the follow up appointment with the pulmonary doctor which would have been appox. $250.00 without insurance. This copay was also $10.00.

mine was over sixty eight hundred plus another thirty eight hundred for equipment. minus copay and deductible I had to pay twelve hundred for machine and mask. what a rip off for what they did total time there was sixteen hours. so six hundred seventy five plus dollars and hour how would you like to make that kinda money I know I would.

Plus the pulmonologist reading it (which wasn't requested in the OP)

my first sleep study was

billed $2,500 wrote off $1,846 covered $653 copay $25

the dr reading it was

billed $116 wrote off $53.89 covered $62 copay $62(toward deductible)

i had to go back for a second night cause i did not sleep(SHOCKING) since i told them I DON'T FREAKING SLEEP!!! The next time i went back i did sleep cause i had been up for 3 days straight and they added 2 other sleeping pills for me to take just that night. i haven't gotten the bill or eob for that yet.

The dme part of the office is a complete rip off. i was shuffled into a "cpap" room where i was told here is your cpap. she took it out of a box and explained how to turn it on. that was the extent of that. i was "given" the mask i was titrated with on my second night. i had no idea what kind of model machine i had. i later figured out it was a remstar plus(i now have a pro). i have no clue what any of this stuff listed below is as my eob just says dme
billed 1950.00 wrote off 1182.99 covered 767.01 copay ??
billed 600.00 wrote off 368.29 covered 231.71 copay ??
billed 235.00 wrote off 144.51 covered 90.49 copay ??
billed 75.00 wrote off 45.91 covered 29.09 copay ??
billed 32.00 wrote off 19.55 covered 12.45 copay ??
billed 80.00 wrote off 48.45 covered 31.55 copay ??
billed 10.00 wrote off 5.85 covered 4.15 copay ??
billed 30.00 wrote off 19.92 covered 10.08 copay ??
billed 50.00 wrote off 12.50 covered 37.50 copay ??

total co-pay $510.59

My insurance was billed $4900 for both sleep studies. Insurance paid $3920. My $1000 deductible has already been met, so they pay $80% and I pay %20. I have to pay $980. I have not yet received a bill from them for this. I am still waiting on my insurance to process the fee for the actual sleep doctor bill, but I will not have to pay any of that, because my maximum out of pocket for the year has now been met.

I had two studies done. My family doctor wrote for split study. But there was another lady have a re-titration study done and she was a nilly willy mess, who had been on Cpap for over 5 yrs. All this silly women did was whine and carry on the whole night. so I got very little attention from the tech. It was so bad the tech came in an apologized. The women VERY dramatic and over the top. Even when I was leaving the next morning. She was still whining about how much troubled she caused!! UGH!

She went on to complain she has some anxiety or other "problems" so while I should have been put on CPAP in the middle of the night the tech didn't have time.

Each sleep study was billed at $2495 per study. I think my insurance allowed about $1600 and I had to pay $20% which was around $468 per study. The doctor charged $415 to read the first study and my insurance allowed $223 I had to pay 20% of that which was $55. The titration study the doctor billed $425 to read and my insurance allowed $223 and my 20% was like $56.60.

In Canada the costs are covered by our health-care system. In Ontario the wait times are typically 4-6 weeks for the initial test and analysis and results take another 4-6 weeks. In my case when I went back for my results after the initial test my titration process was scheduled for 4 days later but I am told that the results will still be another 4-6 weeks.

I don't know about other provinces, but Ontario (OHIP) as og 1 July 2010 changed their rules and will pay only for one study every 2 years. I asked what the cost was if not covered by OHIP and the lab in Waterloo ON charges Cdn$508 for a study that is not covered by OHIP. They said this is what OHIP pays them for covered studies.

In Alberta it is not covered by Alberta Heath Services unless under certain circumstances (Which I did not qualify). AHS does not consider it a major health risk.

My test was $150 for the initial overnight test, and $75 for the week long titration (My benifits did not cover the tests, but paid for the CPAP). From the start of the test until I was on my machine was about 3 weeks.

Sleep Study

Billed: $3540.00 -- Write Off: $2546.30 -- My Co-Ins: $99.37

Sleep Doctor

Billed $525.00 -- Write Off: $358.96 -- My Co-Ins: $16.60
Had a PSG/MSLT recently....interesting that the price has changed at all....though the sleep lab billed insurance a lower amount than they did before.

Back in 2008, my insurance was 90/10....in 2009 it changed the current 80/20...

So,

PSG

Billed: $2795.00 -- Write Off: $1801.30 -- My Co-Ins: $198.74

Sleep Doctor

Billed $390.00 -- Write Off: $223.96 -- My Co-Ins: $33.20

Now I have to whip out a calculator and guess what the MSLT would've cost me had I not reached my co-insurance max for the year.

Billed: $2215.00 -- Write Off: $1221.30 -- My Co-Ins: $198.74

Hmmm, so MSLTs and PSGs cost the same in the end.... What I actually will pay in co-ins is $18.07.

Still waiting for MSLT results....I find myself hoping that I've failed again. I was so hopeful when I failed my first PSG that they would finally do something to me so I could finally start feeling better.

But, I still have EDS, and once I paid off the sleep debt...my insomnia came back.

The Dreamer.

Folks:

First time ever on this or any other site. Just couldn't help myself.
Called Canada, Windsor, they told me sleep study complete: 750.00.
You have to do your own research, all I know is what I was told on the phone.

Thanks,
all you great folks and also a few of the a**holes.

Merry Christmas,
Your friend,
Bruce...

Are you serious? I've never heard 8500 for a sleep study?
