Hmmm, ya the co-insurance part for the CPAP was stiff...it was more than co-insurance for the sleep study + sleep doctor....

Pretty much all the CPAP stuff was allowed.....$57 for 6' hose, $6.74 for white filter, $19.15 for foam filter, $1695 for the machine. Oh, and $350 for humidifier.

The only write-off was $0.62 from the white filter and $83.45 from the machine. Total co-insurance was $204.37....at least I got these bits on Dec 29 and 31. Since it would've been double (+$50 deductible) had I waited until after the new year (which I was originally thinking of doing, before I joined cpaptalk.com on Dec 28th....)

I had originally gotten a mask on the 29th, but exchanged it on Jan 14th....so the refunded the original mask back to insurance and submitted purchase of new mask on the 14th....causing me to have to pay 20% coinsurnace + $50 deductible on the mask. Strange I'm missing that from my files.

Strange...I used to get the insurance summaries in the mail, and just glance at them and toss them....now I save them and refer back to them....(though I switched to getting them electronically, and now print them....hmmm.)

Insurance billed almost $1900 for sleep study........and almost $2000 for titration.........Insurance paid almost $1,100 and $1,200 respectively. My out of pocket expense was $15 for each. MD charge $145 for follow up office visits, my out of pocket is $15. Nice facility for study, extra comfortable bed and MD who accepts patient interest, involvem ent::: PRICELESS!!!!!

$150.00 I had a home study, doctor wrote a prescription. DME set me up with a box that contained, an oximeter, a chest strap, microphone to be taped to throat(record snoring events), and a candula to be put in the nose. I took it home, set it up myself according to the RT and the next day returned it. It was sent to a sleep doctor for interpretation.

Results showed over 200 hypopneas per hour. Family doctor wrote a prescription based on sleep doctors report and recommendation for CPAP or APAP. DME gave me a REMSTAR Auto

I wonder though because I was not titrated, that the RT at my DME was smart enough to go with the APAP or was it because my HH, Mask and tank cost me a whopping $2,500 Canadian!

Mine and hubby's were billed at 1,295.....Insurance paid significantly less.

Insurance billed $3,200 and paid $2,935 for sleep study; Insurance billed $3,500 and paid $3,100 for tritration; Insurance billed $2,050 and paid $576 for doctor to read results. This was an absolute rip-off and I have since switch healthcare providers. This doctor and sleep clinic was basically committing insurance fraud in my opinion. There is no way these studies should have costs so much and they tried to even prescribe more unnecessary procedures and prevent me from getting the machine I wanted. This is a very shady business in my opinion.

The doctor had the moxie to bill $2050 for his consultation(s) and scoring? He sure has some gonads! And an over-inflated since of his value/worth!!!!!!! Especially since he most likely just initialed the RPSGTs scoring!

The sleep study was billed at $2700 which was knock down to $1700 by the insurance company. The hospital did try to get $100 dollars from me as a co-pay which the insurance company promptly turned around an informed them a sleep study is a "lab test" not a hospital stay, and made them return my funds. I can't remember what the charge was for the doctor to read the study but I remember thinking it seemed outrageous and wondering just how much time he put into it, and how much was just calculated by a computer.

I've yet to see this and it was done in January. I'm sure it's gonna be ugly...

Yeah, And on top of that he billed a $300 office visit for 10 minutes. He was an arrogant useless SOB. Is there a place on this site to note sleep clinics and doctors to avoid? I think people should be protected against such predators.

My sleep study was billed out at $4,100. The doctor's review an additional $300+ (can't remember the exact number). She wrote the summary report too. This sleep center is starting to do "at home" overnight studies. It would be interesting to know what they are charging for those.

I just got mu insurance statement today and was shocked. For the actual study they billed $3100 and the insurance approved $3100 and my cost is less than $50... I can't believe they didn't knock it down a lot. My portion doesn't make sense since it should have been 5% .

So far 2 studies equipment and 2 follow ups plus blood work from my pcp to check out some of my side effects all total the insurance bill was $5,200 now thats what the insurance charged not what was paid to them which is significantly lower!!!!!

That is freakin crazy.. The most I have heard of so far (from the doc's that read my studies) has been $850. I thought that was a rip off. Most doc's in the midwest charge $350-$600. My favorite reading doc is real cool.. He only charges $250. He told me that charging more for a half hour job makes him feel dirty. He rocks.. Also, just to throw this in, Hospitals charge atleast 2 times the amount as private labs because supposedly you are paying for what you could use, not what you do use. Example: if you had a heart attack, we could ship you down to ER in less that 2 minutes. Also, hospitals get to charge for the room you are in, which depending on the area you live in can range from $1000-$5000 a night. This figure doesn't have anything to do with the actual sleep study, just the real estate of being in the hospital if that makes sense. My hospital lab charges $1895 and $1995 for studies, and my private lab charges $1495 and $1595 for their studies.

My McSleep Center experience cost close to $4,000 for sleep study, titration, and sleep specialist (I never saw or talked to him). My out of pocket was $0.
