My daughter's 14 and about to get on a machine. She's listed as having severe "central" apnea, with mild obstructive. They started with tonsillectomy, while I'm only hoping she didn't go through that ordeal for nothing. I'm assuming it's good that she at least has a bigger air way now (?).

Interesting!
Perhaps those who suffered Sleep Apnea before 1980's died of associated health conditions before treatment was available.
It appears people are becoming more aware of it these days so there are more being treated. It would be interesting if you could get those people who voted to all vote again in ten and twenty years time. That would show an interesting pattern.
The other theory could be: Those much older than 50 or 60 may be computer illiterate and those younger than 30 - 40 haven't developed the associated health conditions so haven't been diagnosed at this stage.

Interesting how people work isn't it?
Some of the same people go back multiple times to see how the survey is going. I know I have viewed it at least 6 times.

Another estimate could be drawn from the birthdays listing at the bottom of the main page.
Am I mistaken, but doesn't it look like we are gaining quite a few younger members?

If her 'obstructive' component is only mild, then, a tonsillectomy would seem a nonsense.
Hope, the veterans of this Forum will speak.

I am in my mid-40's but could have been diagnosed in my early 30's. I think there is more awareness now both among patients and medical providers. I have young children who sometimes need me at night still. Also was asked if my tubing could be used as a bath toy.

Don't let your teenagers play with it.
Might not want it back.
Maybe that's just my kids, very weird, even for tadpoles.

You could give them an old tube? But watch out the don't siphon the bathwater with it - all over your bathroom floor!

Since treatment and diagnostics have changed a lot in the last 30 years--(more so right before that);
I think we might assume that only recently have apnea patients been able to survive into their 60's and 70's.
I know that Internet usage drops off with advanced age; and of course that is a factor.
Speak for the FRONGS froggy....ha ha!
I was online long before the internet was invented. Back in ye ole times we DIALed up to university computers from home. Surfing of course did not exist either back then, unless you were near an ocean.
Ahy WHO how ya doing chunkyfrog? (I love yer photo/portrait, could use a red scorpion pic myself)

44 and just started CPAP therapy, but I'm sure I've had apnea for at least 20 years, it just got a lot worse in the last few years.

And I've aged a decade! I am sure I voted earlier (as I can see results that must be true!). But now I am in the next group up!
Do I vote again? Nah, don't want to bias the results!
