There has been smoking in my home, i don't see as it has caused a problem with my machine. The last C pap i traded in was 7 years old and still like new. There is however no smoking in my bedroom...

My experience has been not even the most expensive filter will prevent the smell of smoke, so save your money. The DME is likely worried that your machine ( a rental?) will absorb the smell of smoke.

A smoker can't smell the smoke smell like a non-smoker can.

On another note -
Do you need a license to drive a car? Why don't STOP signs stop cars?

Adjusting the mask. I use a Fischer and Paykill Flexifit 432 full face mask and my comments are based on that. A year go, the people at my Sleep Clinic were kind enough to let me take my mask back up there and show me some things about adjusting it. They did it for free. Anyway. If I tighten the straps at the bottom, it raises the top part, near the eyes up like a teeter totter. I got into a cycle of tightening and tightening. Like the previous poster said. Sometimes one must loosen up all the straps and start all over again. If the upper right is loose, then sometimes the way to tighten it up is to tighten up the upper left, or lower left. The real problem is learning to do it while feeling tired and wanting to go asleep. Only tighten as little as possible at a time. Try to tighten a strap less than you think you need rather than what you think you need. After getting a bruise, it is going to be hard to get it to heal while still using the mask. I have used mole skin as well, it has really helped. I have sometimes wet the seal with water to start the night. I have sometimes got it to seal without tightening down any more by, picking it up and sitting it back down onto my face. Sometimes by sliding it down my face by a fraction of an inch. The mask seal has an air channel that should be filled by the air pressure of the machine. If one tightens the mask down too much it distorts that channel, and causes mask to leak. The goal is to make sure the air channel gets filled and it helps create the seal. One should be aware of getting the air channel to working for you.

About the roomie. Crack the your bedroom window open. Point a large powerful fan towards your closed door and let it rip. Try to force air out, around the edges of your closed door.
