The older I get I find that I do more of what I ____ well please! . . . Physicians are in a SERVICE profession, and I pay my "dues" whenever I go for this "medical advice" service. How much of that advice I follow is MY decision ... just like deciding what I will eat for lunch. I have great respect for the medical profession, but, NO, I don't believe they have the corner on what is best for me. I go to them for GUIDANCE only as I seek to achieve optimal health!

Some physicians -- and some papers in the medical literature are PROPONENTS of the patient being taught to change CPAP settings! God bless 'em!! That makes pure sense! Who else knows, from day to day, how the person on PAP "feels" on a particular setting? Only the CPAPer, the one dealing with ALL the little & big DAILY annoyances.

I'd like to know WHO is hassling the diabetic who daily monitors his/her blood glucose and adjusts insulin as needed . . . So what's the diff??

It's the RT/DME who are obligated to follow doctor's orders, not me!

I could never do that though, myself, since it would require my stepping foot into a brick-and-mortar DME. You see, the thing is that I don't think the word "mortar" in "brick-and-mortar" means the same thing to me and to them. And I can't promise where the brick might land. So for the sake of their safety, my safety, and the safety of the public in general, I don't think I should initiate any local DME contact without first notifying the local authorities.

My machine was set to 10 by doctor's orders before the titration. However, I titrated at 9 and the DDME (you know, the people you call the sleep professionals) refused to reset it. If it hadn't been for the good folks around here, I wouldn't have know how to reset the pressure. Fortunately, I have a sensible doctor who is happy that I've taken charge of my treatment because most patients are too passive with theirs.
