A common knowlege area is of course a good idea. However, I agree that all should feel welcome. I don't jump in very often, but I do browse through the topics. It takes me literally no time at all to skip over the ones that sound like repeats if I happen to be in a hurry. If I'm not pressed for time, I'll read many of the "me too" posts. I have been and still am guilty of asking things that others feel have been answered. I'm at the same time only too glad to contribute what I can.

Thank you to Rested Gal and many many others who have made this journey less frustrating and at times a bit of fun.

Being new to cpap myself (I hate the term-NEWBIE!!), I love it when someone posts and starts asking questions! Because, all the wonderful people here who respond always have a great answer and I always learn something new with each answer. Each question asked always helps someone else in the long run.

When I was told 3 months ago that I had sleep apnea, I had not even heard of it let alone know what it was all about. Most people don't know. I treasure all the friends that I have made here and respect all of their answers to my questions. Thank you each and everyone of you here on this board!

Old or new, the thread can still raise hackles......

I was a newbie once and remember the help I received from the folks at this place......It's become like a family.....connected by a common affliction, common experiences, common problems and to an extent, common answers.

As long as I review this board, I will always be around for the newbies. I'll answer their common questions with the same tone and caring that I've done for every one in the past -- the same as it was done for me!!!!
I owe this forum!!!

I'm sitting here getting a chuckle out of the whole thing. Many of us still seem to be supportive of asking even the basic questions, regardless of how much dust has to be brushed off. And at the same time we're continuing a thread that was started a few years ago... Just goes to show you, as new people come on board, the issues are also new to them (to us). We need our turn in the barrel, and have luckily found the best place in the world to get information, perspective, humor and controversy all in one place.

i remember when i joined this forum a year ago and was so overwhelmed by how much there was too learn, but too tired and brain foggy to search for the info i needed...on occasion i did feel a little 'slapped on the wrist' for asking questions that were, unbeknownst to me, "repeats", but more often i was guided and directed, supported and empathized with, and those are the responses and the people i remember the most

Me too!

But never felt slapped on the wrist at all.

I am so grateful to the kind people who spelled stuff out to me that i was too foggy to "get" first time, and for encouraging me and most of all for helping me see the funny side.

YAY to Birdshell for the mask fancy dress thread which introduced me to the forum via a Google search and set the tone for the whole CPAP experience.

Just like there's no need to apologize for asking something that's been asked before, there's no need to apologize for replying to an old thread.

It's still "new" reading to new readers. And sometimes fun for an old reader to look back through. It's easy enough to skip any topic a person doesn't want to read -- or read again.

Inadvertently replying to an old thread without checking the date of the last post? Heck... been there, done that, myself. No big deal.

I'm a 'newbie' from Australia. When I found this site it was fantastic to see that there were other people who could give advice to me, as a new person thrust into this terrible sentence of CPAP. Yes many have found a great outcome but however many. many more struggle. The ONLY thing keeping them from absolute depression and thoughts of 'ending it all' are the posts helping out (even if maybe over and over).
So yes maybe newbies could be sent to a structured area giving many of the new questions and answers. However I've found that it's the personal responses that make you feel as if it's all worthwhile to persevere.

I don't think it's just an Aussie thing, michaelho, but I was on the verge of making an identical comment. The information here is essential - but even more so is the sense of a caring community of similarly afflicted people.

Ditto. I often wonder what happened to some of the members who frequented the forum back then. Sometimes they'd show up when the spam bots were actively resurrecting the old posts......and then disappear again.

Just goes to show there's not a whole lot "new" that gets discussed on these forums. So, if I happen to suggest going to the "Search" function and searching on a word or words, please don't get upset with me. There's just a lot of information that's already out there.
