ALL spending bills come from the House. The Senate nor President can start ANY spending bill. Couldn't since day one. Never have been able to.

And, it was Clinton that signed the legislation that repealed the Glass-Steagall Act.....actually, some of the deregulation started back in the Carter years.

Yep, if they're a politician you can't trust 'em!!! Ya can't trust lawyers and most politicians are lawyers. Either way, regardless how good a human being they were before they became lawyers or politicians you can't roll in the mud w/o getting dirty and in no time yer as slimey as the rest.

Something that concerns me deeply, and is probably overlooked by most, is the predominance of the color RED,the flag color of the Bloods in the attire and accessories of all surrounding Obama. It has been seen throughout his campaign, but was overwhelming today at the inauguration. Just an observation......

Well, I'm here in the USA and I'm not a cynic or a nut job. This quote is so far out that I'm wondering if it's simply to stir the pot more. <sigh> Red is one of our country's colors, in case you have forgotten, SeaPappy.

I was very pleased with the inauguration today, with the exception of Rev. Warren. I see him as divisive, but I know that he was asked, along with Rev. Lowry, Bishop Robinson, and others to show that President Obama is extremely serious about bringing together disparate parties. Aretha is always wonderful and the quartet with Perlman and Ma was awesome (and I don't use that word lightly...I've probably used it one other time in the last 24 months). I'm going to have to find a recording of that to purchase! The clarinetist, whose name I don't remember, was exceptional. The President's speech was hopeful, but took all of us to task for the mistakes of the last eight years. I didn't understand the poem in the context of the inauguration, put I liked the use of language and imagery.

I truly believe this is a turning point in our history. We aren't there yet, but we've made a great stride towards a post-racial society with a president who is of a minority race. Now every child in America can hold the belief that they can be president, not just the white ones. I wasn't sure this would happen in my lifetime, so I'm very pleased that we have an African-American president.

AMEN! I tend to like him - but .....

I forgot to say that I really loved Rev. Lowry's benediction. And Michelle Obama's dress and coat. Dr. Biden's coat and boots, not so much....

Laura Bush looked wonderful, classy lady. Having been in Portuguese Water Dogs for almost 30 years, I question his first decision to even consider one, allergies aside, he's clueless as to their behavior and yes trainer, groomer, kennel folks aside, they NEED to be family dogs, and tolerated for their "robust" personalities, kind of like the kid who's always outside the Principal's office who's described as "spirited" while waiting to be suspended indefinitely!
Labradoodle not much better, behavior maybe, brains and health issues sorely lacking, Just MHO.

Wow, I thought I was a jaded former pollyanna, but maybe I'm not that reformed.

I still believe that integrity and character cannot be mandated to possess or to relinquish their possession. I understand there are "machines" in place in life, and each of us must find the way we can work within those with clear conscience, such as in politics and employment. I believe the unsung heroes who choose right over wrong every day vastly outnumber those paraded before us in the media who yield to selfishness, greed, and even worse base desires. I believe that containing an element of truth does not justify perpetuation of stereotypes fraught with inaccuracies.

But back to the subject of today's politics. I remember in 1971 a friend and I not being served in a restaurant in a part of town where it was known blacks were not welcome or safe. I naively thought it would be ok since they were with me - wrong! Not only were they not served, neither was I. Yes, our country has come a long way in issues of race. However, what has troubled me during this whole election is the constant references to Obama being African American.

In our nation, it has historically been that anyone with a drop of apparent black blood was forced by society to align with that part of their heritage. It was a way to maintain separatism. Barack Obama is as white as he is black, with both influences growing up, yet he is still identified as our "first black president". While I am to my core moved by the magnitude of this time in our nation's history, we will have arrived when labels that force racial affiliation upon those of multi racial ethnicities are obsolete. That's probably too much for even a not-so-reformed pollyanna to expect in my lifetime.

What I will not forget about this day is that it is the same day I was offered a buyout of 1.5 weeks pay for every year of service ( 3 weeks) to leave before layoffs begin 2-3-09.

My neighbor's son-in-law was laid off at 4:00 p.m. Monday. He was VP of Sales and was asked to leave the office as soon as they gave him his severance documents. So his first day of unemployment he could spend watching the inauguration.

Thanks Rooster... I am not out yet but looks real bad. You just never know. I will be in good company if I get the boot. But they will have to boot me . I have applied for many jobs in the last 6 months because I could see we were in trouble and not one call. Worst I have seen it in my working lifetime.

The person who I wanted to see get the job was knocked out early on (and no it wasn't Ron Paul) but their policies wouldn't likely have been the same as Obama. So I will wait and see how it goes.

What iks me isn't that I didn't get the president I was hoping for. But rather the switch that got flipped by the same people who would have touted, "dissent is patriotic" for the past 8 years now say was must "unite" today or you are a "cynic".

I even heard a local radio host angry because conservative radio pundits weren't as enraptured with the whole thing as he was. There's a hint of a cultist undercurrent with the whole day.
