Got my splints out today... Much more conformable

How much did it hurt to remove the spints? Honestly?

I wouldn't really say it hurt. At most 5 second of pain and about 15 seconds of discomfort.
It was a relief to get them out and to be able to breath easier.

I'd be curious to see an "after" posting of your Encore Report. Do you think Tidal Volume or Peek Flow will change?

I really havn't noticed a lot of differnce yet. Keep in mind that I am still healing at this point. It takes 4-6 weeks for the scar tissue to form that causes the turbinates to shrink.

The septoplasty does make a bit of difference in my day time breathing, particaully on the right side. But its not dramatic.

Breathing still becomes very congested after lying down and I have to breath though my mouth. It will take some weeks to see if this improves.

I continue to beleive that there is something causing this swelling in my nose,throat, and mouth. Until that is determined and corrected things might not change. I choose to proceed with these proceedures since I have suffered for so long. Even small improvements will be welcomed at this point.

I was hoping that would fix you right up. My wish for you is that as the swelling goes down you will get more and more relief from you problem. We are all pulling for you here on this forum.

I'm getting this next month. How soon can you use CPAP after the surgery. I'm a little disappointed from what I'm hearing, I at first thought getting the surgery would mean no more sleep apnea. But the doctor's and this site has specified that I will still have the apnea. Anyway, how soon after can you use CPAP?

I used it the night of the surgery and never slept a minute without it. I had to use a different mask for a couple of weeks before I returned to nasal pillows.

I have asked you before to fill out your equipment profile. We can give you better advice if we know what equipment you are using.

I had this done Dec 30 and can say that I would do it again. Very little pain, more like discomfort. I didn't even use much of the drugs for pain they gave me. Bleeding for a few days wasn't much fun. I would suggest being off work or taking it easy until they take the plastic stents out. My experience is much the same as jskinner's. I went without CPAP for two days. First night was ok (drugs) but second night reminded me of why I like CPAP so much,,,,, I felt like crap the next day without it. Dr said I would not be able to use CPAP but I did it anyway and used my Quattro mask for about a week or so. After that I went back to my Liberty pillowed mask and that was a little uncomfortable on the septum but I prefer that to the full face mask. So, I guess it is up to the individual on what mask to use but You WILL need a full face mask for at least the firat few days. Hope this helps and reassures some. Very little pain for a lot of gain. I can now breathe through both sides of my nose much easier.

Same here, I used mine the night of the surgery. It was a bit painful but the codine helped. I used a Quatto mask for the first week and then switched back to my Liberty,
