This thread has just made me weep! We lost our 14 year old min pin 2 weeks ago. When we got him, the breed was not well known around here, and everyone who saw him called him a chihuahua. So his name became Benito Bandito Rodriguez Onez Juarez. The poor little thing never knew of his German heritage. He was happy to be a chihuahua.

I'm am so very sorry to know of your loss and I do feel your pain. The loss of your precious Hershey has left a huge hole in your life.

Hi There-----I'm am so very sorry to hear of your loss--it is hard to lose one of the family. I lost my Sadie (mixed breed from the HS) about 5 years ago and she was 18 years old. It was a horrible loss but she lived a good life with me and we had a special bond. I had her before I had kids so she was with me through a lot in my like. The loss of your precious Hershey has left a huge hole in your heart right now I know but think of what a great life you gave your pet---

Another thought came to mind after reading through the posts again.....this is a great thread!!!!!!!!!
Thank you yorkiemum for sharing and allowing us to share your feelings.....and I think you can see, we do share your grief!!!! Also, I think we can all celebrate Hershey's life with you!!!

But my other thought (I didn't want to edit my previous post......) was that anyone who has said, "You can't buy love", has never paid for a puppy!!!!! Maggie cost us a typical amount for a pure bred chocolate lab, but she's been worth every penny at three times the cost!!!!!!

Thank you all sooooo very much! Being able to express myself has been very helpful
in this grieving process. I truly appreciate being able to post this 'off topic' subject.
Even a simple errand as running into a Barnes and Noble for a gift card resulted in
my falling apart as I laid eyes upon a Chocolate Lab 2009 calendar. Darting around
for somewhere to hide to regain my composure, it struck me how much my heart
is aching, but I know with time, it will subside. I went to photo store and duplicated
a couple photos to put a collage together, with the pawprint my vet gave us, for my sons
to keep as a memorial for their lost love as well.

Christmas is a time for family. It is also a good time for reflection, of all the loved
ones (canine/feline included) who we've lost, who remain in our every day life, and
those nearby and far away we love.

Crying helps. I still do it on occasion when I think about my beloved dog. He was so darn lovable. And yes, those velvet ears, my favorite part to kiss along with the top of his head. Crying is remembering. Remembering a lovely soul (even if it's not human), brings joy to our lives and why we are here.

I know what you must have gone through. I have a 14-1/2 year old Dalmatian that is slowing down and I dread the thought of losing her. Last Friday (12/26) we had to take her to the vet and I feared the worst; however, the vet said she would be ok and that when the time comes for her end, I would know. Anyway, I am going to do everything to make her remaining days the best they can be.

I am sorry for your loss as well. Our dogs bring us such joy. You all that wrote about their love for us sure hit it on the head. When you lose a long time pet it is sometimes almost worse than losing a person. Seldom does the dog leave you with bad feelings for them. You only remember the good times. We have lots of dogs,hounds,shephard/chow.,llasha/bishons. I hate to think what will happen when we lose our Casie the shepard/chow is is about 10 or so a pound "puppy" who has stolen our hearts. I had not seen the rainbow bridge before what a wonderful thought for all the lost dogs,cat and even my bird that is gone. Blessings, Melinda
