I just now saw this thread and find it too hard to believe.

My sympathies are with John's mother and children ... I am so sorry he has passed on.

His contributions to this forum will remain great for a long time to come.

When I first found my way to this forum, Snoredog was the one to advise me to use Ayr saline gel for my raw nose ... a big obstacle for me in getting started with my treatment. He helped me to select an APAP machine and then later turned me onto nasal (or rhino as he would say) saline irrigations, then the Ecotrin regimen and to this day many of my lifestyle changes in coordination and association of my apnea treatment I owe thanks to Snoredog.

I'm not so sure that science will catch up to him. I miss him alot already .... I'm so bummed.

Many condolences to Snoredog's family. He was an intregal part of the Forum as you know by now.

There are those of us who go thru life leaving tiny ripples that quickly fade away. Then are those who make a splash that lives on. Snoredog was such a man. He was truly a dichotomy with the tender knowledgeable part of him that provided so much valuable information and at times gave what seemed like a prescription with much more detail than from a doctor. Yet he expected those receiving it to really give it a try and followed up with tough love. And he was well known for being short on patience with those who either were blatantly pushing a product without accepting feedback, or who went cross grain with threads that already resolved issues.

I'm reminded a bit of the John Wayne character who was "Ah Shucks" around the lady, but would punch a cowboy's light's out if he was crossed. Whether the lady or the cowboy, you had to respect the man for his convictions. That's the kind of character you don't forget and Snoredog will be long remembered - and greatly missed.

Rest in Peace Snoredog.

Dear Cristen and Ali,

I’m heartbroken to hear your news, as are so many others here, and I've only been a member for a short time. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I’m so terribly sorry for your loss, and I hope the stories that we share will offer some small comfort.

The Snoredog that I got to know was bigger than life. No games, no pretenses, just in-your-face reality. (I’m sure nothing we say will be a surprise to you.) He was such a brilliant man, an hysterically funny man, a kind and caring man. Now, I know he had his moments of temper; more than a few, and they could be just as intense as when he helped to tackle somebody’s sleep apnea problems. But he was honest, he was real, and the greatest thing about him was his heart. Your father had such a good heart, and he gave so much to so many here. I’m certain that your dad helped to save countless lives by working with people and helping them to stay on their cpap therapy.

Carbonman referred to him as the Junkyard Dog, and there’s certainly truth in that. To me, he was the Sled Dog... the lead sled dog who was focused on the journey ahead and willing to snap at the rest of the team whenever they needed it. But the focus was on the journey, not the snapping. And for the most part, he was able to focus on what was being said, not the personality of the person saying it. That’s a huge accomplishment for anyone in this life. I’m right there with jnk/Jeff, who said how heartwarming it was to laughingly be called a troublemaker. On the last day that your dad posted, he very laughingly called me a basket case, and my heart was equally warmed. Now, it just hurts.

Don’t be surprised if it sounds like we feel that we know you. Of course we don’t, but we feel that way because your dad loved to brag on both of you, his beautiful, wonderful, smart daughters. I doubt that two young women ever had so many self-appointed aunts and uncles, but you do here if you want them. Always.

As RosemaryB suggested, I think you’d enjoy reading your dad’s posts. All you need to do is select “Advanced” at the top of the page, just to the right of the Search boxes. In the next screen, type “snoredog” in the second search box and Enter. That’ll get you all of his posts, most recent first. In the next screen, you can do searches within his posts, such as daughter*, Gizmo, etc. And if you do have a photo of him that you could post here, many of us would appreciate it very much.

Again, my deep condolences to both of you and all of your family. Your father will be deeply missed. Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know.

Wow. This is a big loss to our community. Snoredog was the first forum member to reach out to me, and he sent me my first onlist mask. He taught me many things.

I still remember the day I thought I saw a bumper sticker that said "What Would Snoredog Do?" I laughed so hard until I caught up enough to see it was "Scooby Doo" but I like my version better.

Snoredog was brilliant, cantankerous, a pain in the ass, and a jewel of a human. He taught us much about cpap therapy, human relations, and the zen of letting the flaming email go.

I'll miss his zingers. I'll miss the feisty conversations. I'll miss Snoredog.

My deepest sympathies to your family. You are wonderful children to have gotten on his computer and sent this note. We deeply appreciate it.

I didn't know your father personally .. just in this forum were he shared his knowledge with us, and help to many in different ways. Some people born to be followers and others have the ability to be leaders in some fields... your dad definitely was a leader here... you should be really proud of him... my prayers for him and for all of you family.

Snoredog, as we knew him, was one of the brightest stars of this forum. In this forum, we are all anonymous, meeting strangers on a journey and then becoming friends. Snoredog was one of few members with whom I have had private communications. In my last msg:

I have come to realize that you are one of the more knowledgeable of all those people on the forum. When I was reading some old 2005(?) msgs from you, I realized some of the procedures you had to go through and the variety of equipments you had first hand experience with!

There was a reference to you visiting a cardiologist in the SF Bay Area. I am just curious: are you living in the Bay Area? I do live in the Bay Area.

All I knew from his reply was that he had moved to the Sacramento area. Of course, I did not know his real name then. But when I heard John Dismuke, that rang a bell. It is possible we have worked together in some company. Or: Cristen and Ali, if your father was a student at University of California, Berkley in the early 70's in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences, or the School of Optometry, there is a possibly he was a student of mine. You can be very proud of your father.
