Currently 259 lbs.
Goal 150 lbs.
Lots of women at the meetings only a couple of us guys ever at a meeting. Too bad more guys don't show...for you young males, there are some fairly attractive young ladies there...perhaps a good place to meet someone with something in common!

Well, I'm 52yo, about 175lbs (my rough conversion from kg's) and probably could lose about 5 lbs. Still play active sport (field hockey) and can still outrun and outlast all the youngies. I was about 160lbs in my early 20's, so things haven't gone too far south in the intervening 30 years. And I've been a world champion snorer since I was about 15. Does this add anything to the discussion? - not sure, but I said it anyway!

How do you know how much overweight you really are?
The only way I know of is by comparison to the AMA height/weight/age charts (old) and more recently by the Body Mass Index (BMI) charts.
According to this website ://
www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ I am well into obesity and need to lose 95 lbs just to barely reach a normal weight.
Okay, I'm working on serious weight loss but 95 lbs is a lot for me to get rid of. Sometimes I think these standards are made up by a bunch of
really skinny people who delight in tormenting the rest of us with unobtainable goals. Well, time will tell if I can do it but if I make it, I very much
doubt if anyone I know will recognize me.

My goal is to get to the point where I don't recognize myself.

BMI is not as good an indicator as belly fat. I think it is now known that belly fat is the really dangerous type of fat. Plenty of those skinny people have two much belly fat so they better be careful what they take delight in.
I am skinny myself but constantly have to work on diet and exercise to keep the belly fat away.

When I first found out that I had sleep apnea i was at 250+ that was June of 07. Iam now down to 170 as of Sept. 08 and had another sleep study down and all my numbers are way down. I also use a dental device. Keep in mind that everyone is differant and relusts are not allways the same. The doctor did say that if I did not wish to use the machine or dental device that I would be ok. He said that if I even lost some more that the numbers would go lower. If you go to some of my WLS/Herbest Retainer post you will see the numbers there.

I myself have smallish short stature but I am very stocky.......used to be thin, but ever since I took up weights and training my mass grew. Worst still my aliments, Poly Cystic Overian Sydrome, plus the high testerone leves didn't help.....I got a chronicly bloated stomach, fliud retension and to top it all a cocktail of meds to to treat all my other medical stuff.
Suprised that I didn't get any heavier then I am so far......One endoclogist discrimated against my age by looking at me no test were done whatsoever looked a me stomach and said I was "a fatty" sent me off I nearly clonked him for it! I had second opinon, an they found whole truck full of stuff on test.....obvousily other one was a narrow minded a

Started on CPAP 11/05 15 cm pressure. Weight at time 318 lbs
12/07- I had gastric bypass surgery
12/08(1 year 1 week since surgery) 9cm pressure (my MD ordered a APAP just this week...so I don't have to go for frequent titration studies.) My weight is 170 lbs. WOOHOO!!!! My personal goal is 130 lbs but I'd be happy at 140.

I wish I could do the poll. I am underweight. There are no options there for me. Aw shucks! I hate not being answer polls.

I am 5 feet and around 120 pounds. While I have had apnea undiagnosed I would imagine at least since high school (I'm 23), I only really started to notice it around last November. I was in the process of losing the 25 pounds I had put on from eating too many brownies and I suddenly developed a case of GERD. Soon after that I started having problems sleeping because I would stop breathing as I was falling asleep... thus waking me up (as in really waking me up, not just booting me to the light sleep stage). I wonder if these three things are related!

I would think I am about 10 to 15 pounds over weight, I stayed the same and at times even would loose a pound or two for the first 8 months of therapy, but the past 4 months, I have packed on the ice cream and pop corn pounds (dang that sounds good)...
Also, being on this forum and the computer adds to the lack of exercise!!!
I have read this forum alot for the past 15 months, gained weight but learned soooooo much and met so many wonderful and helpful and funny people so i'll take the pounds any day than to not have my forum!
