[quote="WearyOne]I was thinking maybe just ignore them, not respond at all, in any way--good, bad, indifferent. If that doesn't work and they still refuse to give up, maybe ask Johnny or someone else to delete those posts or block the IP? I'm guessing that can be done?

I'm figuring nobody's life can be so void of anything else that they'd continue to waste their time trying to harass a bunch of people on a forum they don't even know, especially if they get no feedback from their posts AT ALL. But I could be wrong.

Yep, it's already happening...people are ignoring posts by the troll and things are getting closer to normal.

Ignoring is the best policy.

The poster to be ignored had posted a thread titled "Note: Opinions from Newbies are NOT Welcome Here" - my heart skipped a beat when I saw it - that's before reading anything of its text. And I'm not a newbie. I knew that title could not and would not be ingored - so I created this one as an immediate, visual antidote for any newbie who happened to look for support then. The tactic worked: Nobody was responding to his thread until he renamed it. Some if you may not know that an original poster can edit the thread's subject. This poster, whose names I am purposely not mentioning, clearly did know - and he renamed his thread to something more intrguing, so people started responding to it - but at least that "NOT welcome" announcement was removed from our front door so to speak.

And then - by coincidence, or intentionally - someone else restarted the fire with the "sections" thread....
If any poster decides to bump this thread up by some more nonsense, all we have to do is ingore him - maybe post a t-r-o-l-l warning.

Nothing easier for sophisticated t- r-o-l-l than search for his name or the the word t -r - o-l-l in order to start his bashing again... which why I prefer not to mention his name, or initials, or the t word in this message...
O.

I knew it. Don't worry... I won't tell anyone.

ozij, that was a great idea you had, using this subject line.

IMHO, I think in these cases if we can really ignore, not even post anything about troll or anything else, that might work best. Not saying it will get rid of the person posting the offensive stuff, but get others to the point of it just not making any difference if those posts are there or not. Just continue posting about whatever the thread originally was as if the offending post isn't even there. Do not take the bait. And if someone new comes in and posts something in response because they have no idea what in the world is going on, IM that person to let them know what's going on. Take the discussion, if needed, about the offensive posts to IM where it can't fuel the agenda of someone attempting to cause trouble and chaos. I know that's so much easier said than done, as I know I've taken the bait put out by these kinds of posts myself. It is an experience in learning human behavior, that's for sure.

Wow. This place is whacked.
