First off thanks guys for answering my questions.

In New York the more questions ask, the more questions go further around. Everyone is like a lawyer.

If the doctor told me " You need the machine for life", isn't that like implying a disability?

My opinion: Those cpap machines look life respirators. If someone is using it, that is a pretty serious condition.

So if I'm told I have to wear glasses for the rest of my life its a disability? How about wearing cloths in the winter? That seems like a disability. Do I have to eat for the rest of my life? Does lactose intolerance qualify for disability payments?

From ada.gov:
"An individual with a disability is defined by the ADA as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a person who has a history or record of such an impairment, or a person who is perceived by others as having such an impairment."

Simply using a cpap doesn't limit major life activities, though I could imagine severe situation that do cross this line.

No! Sleep Apnea isn't life threatening, if treated correctly, that's on you to do. If Cpap machines look like Respirators to you isn't anything. We can't help your eyesight, or thinking, XPAPs and Respirators are two different animals, two completely different levels of treatment for two completely different level of problems.

Dusability is paid to people who CANNOT work, but Cpap is only used when you're asleep - obviously not working. Stop looking for magic and just be glad you have a machine.

I use my CPAP for quality of life. I work 40+/week, have a 10 year old, and manage just fine. I am in no way disabled.

There is a HUGE difference between a cpap and the equipment some associate with end of life.
This predjudice is unreasonable, and totally unfounded.
Cpap improves life, and often extends it, contrary to the assertions of junk journalists.

Forgive the bluntness, my situation looks bleak. I have multiple medical conditions all which may be fatal.

To list them a) I had an aortic dissection type B which is growing larger b) pacemaker implanted c) cpap machine for sleep apnea.

Once and for all if I have been using cpap machine for over a year now and my sleep apnea is still there (logic, if one is still using cpap machine that means one has sleep apnea) isn't that a disability?
As in social security disability.

How about the sum total of it all?

Does the combination of those keep you from working with if provided reasonable accommodation? Since I am not in your shoes, I cannot possibly know, but I do not see anything that would result in your being unable to earn a living. It really sounds to me like you want to retire and get paid because you have medical issues. That is not the way disability works.

It's not for us to guess at, whatever we think...only your MDs and the gov't could possibly decide. And I'm sure you know that.

As previously mentioned, you need to consult a disability attorney to see if you possibly qualify for disability.

Sounds like your therapy has not been optimized.
Under the ADA, Sleep Apnea was designated to be a "disability", but with therapy, that should not apply.
It also sounds like you're looking for an excuse to not work.
Contact an appropriate attorney.

Disability may not be what you think it is. I worked with a person that kept coming up with medical conditions that prevented him from doing his job. He finally found a doctor and lawyer combination that got him qualified for disability. About a year after he left the company, he call his old manager and asked if he could have his job back. He was told he could return only if he could get the doctor to release him as being able to do all of the work associated with the position he vacated. Needless to say, he did not come back to work.

Maybe if you spent more time making your Sleep Apnea treatment work, instead of trying to get around the system you would be better off. Jim

Hell no. You have to be approved by the system. Lots of people have what you have. Dont try to scam the system.
