But the real question is... does your 92 year old MIL PAP?
Alas, no.

MIL actually did have a sleep test several years ago and was in that rarefied set of folks who find out they DON'T have OSA after doing a full PSG.

MIL does have serious COPD issues and sleeps with O2 every night.

For some people yes CPAP can be like torture. but once you get used to it and using it every night like I have its really no big deal. It just takes time and getting used to expecilly for those who are just getting started. there are also those who for some reason can't tollerate it.

For me, the only torture was the first mask the DME foisted off on me. (darn thing did NOT fit!)

Other:

Everything I guess is alright. Adjusting to the CPAP machine I'm sure will take awhile. After all it only has been my 2nd night using it. My only thing is after my concern gets answered why I heard excess moisture through the tubing/ mask; I'm also liking to know how to position the tubing where it's not uncomfortable when laying in bed.

Soon you will learn the moonlight dance.
At first we stumble, sometimes we fall;
But we pick ourselves up and continue on;
Until the smoothness and rhythm pushes away frustration and awkwardness.
It is not a bad thing at all, once the steps become second nature.

The main problem that I am having is the expectation that somehow you can restrict the air from flowing through only your nose. My mouth will open slightly, especially if I have a toothache, or sore jaw. I also sometimes just let the air flow because I'm relaxed. I am on a nose cushion, and I have tried the face mask. The face mask made it worse, because I had to wear it tighter, and I still leaked. I have my nose cushion so loose that it almost leaks, but I have gotten used to it, and it works great. A more recent problem is recovering from a cough, it seems to be making my lungs dry, even with my humidifier all the way up (and it causes condensation too).

You had the wrong sized mask. Full Face Mask should not be tightened too much, they work like hovercrafts with their skirts inflated.

If you are mouth breathing then you are losing therapy air. No amount of humidity will help.

Anything can torture people. We all have some kind of phobia, but if it is advanced, just swallowing food can be a severely stressful phobia for some people.

Slamming a mask over your mouth at night and blowing pressure down your snout is not a natural thing. I dont know why i never really struggled with it, probably because i suffered air hunger for so long.

Bottom line, this therapy is an ongoing series of small steps forward and adjusting for most people. Failing is not an option, but setbacks are a daily normal.

I don't have any of these issues but the poll does not allow me to post without at least clicking off one whine box.

I couldn't vote either; made me feel disenfranchised.

Nothing in the Constitution giving frogs the right to vote, last time I checked.

Frogs don't need permission.
We just ask to be forgiven if something breaks.
