Oooo.... Kathy, I'm gonna have to try that. Next time I get "the 3 am fidgets" I'm gonna open a bottle, take a long deep whiff, then re-load my scent pad. This is a very interesting idea....

Thanks for another good idea, Kathy!!!

Wow my DME must be worse than I thought, and it must vary in different parts of the country. I spend a lot of time with different DME providers for work as well. I got a here's the machine, you turn it on like this, read this book and call to talk to an RT if you want, follow up with the MD...BYE! I would have loved more info, how to live with CPAP and OSA, Pursleep samples/coupons just an info sheet would have been nice. To be perfectly honest around here I think giving the info to sleep labs or MD's would be more helpful, the DME's just kind of provide the machines no real follow up.

Hey Nights - ALL DME'S ARE PRETTY MUCH LIKE THAT. There are a few good ones out there, but they are RARE, and it's a closely guarded secret who they are.

I brought up PurSleep at our AWAKE support group meeting. Everyone acted like they never heard of it. The group leaders were going to contact you for further information for our January session.

I would have tried it right away if it were promoted in such a way that I thought of it as a help versus just another promotional item. For example, I would have tried it right away if the DME said something like, "If you dislike the plastic smell, you can use the enclosed scent samples that not only help cover the scent of plastic, but may also help you sleep better." However, this implies endorsement which is unlikely to happen.

So, I think it's important that the package has a clear statement leading the consumer to try it.

Curious that AuntieNae would resurrect this thread after several months and that Gasp would make this comment because I am literally editing the brochure right now!

This is what I want to put on the outside of the brochure that will include the free samples:
FALL ASLEEP - STAY ASLEEP - WAKE REFRESHED

WITH CPAP Tonight
Is that an overstatement? Am I going to get sued for false advertising? (wait, that's asking for legal advice....).

Suggestions?

AuntieNae, thanks very much for introducing the product to your Awake group. As with any good and helpful idea, especially consumer products, marketing can be like a brick wall. There is no such thing as a product that sells itself. And thanks to all of the forum members who have provided such outstanding support and feedback for now going on almost 2 years! The sample idea (the subject of this thread) would never have happened had it not been for the cpaptalk Brain Trust.

O.
I second Ozij's suggestion. When I first read the product description, the term "aromatherapy" was a red flag to me-- it seemed to imply that it was intended to be part of the treatment (e.g. the embedded word "therapy" and the alternative medicine connotation). After I read a few posts, though, and found out that it just makes the CPAP "experience" more tolerable for those of us who dislike inhaling the scent of plastic, I ordered the sampler pack and now use it every night.

Ditto on the aromatherapy. The 'therapy' part of the word is too closely aligned with sleep therapy, apnea therapy, etc.

All you need to do is add the word helps - such as, HELPS YOU FALL ASLEEP - STAY ASLEEP - WAKE REFRESHED. IMHO : )

I just love PurSleep. French Vanilla and Peace are two of my favorites! Any chance selling larger than the 15ml bottles? I do love using three drops!

I voted that I would try on the second or third night. Like others I would want to try the "basic" system first and then when feeling that I had things working right and I was comfortable, I wold try the PurSleep.

Thanks to all those who participated in this thread. The free samples are in production and are about 3 weeks away from completion. The brochure says nothing of "aromatherapy." I really appreciate the comments on that word because it's something that has been kind of bothering me for a while but I had never put it into perspective. Now I can see that it's a misnomer for at least a few reasons.

First, the word "aromatherapy" is highly loaded, used and abused by snake oil claims of miracle cures and all of that kind of nonsense. In fact, a YoungLiving person tried to tell people on this forum that if they just put a certain essential oil on their feet every night, it would flat-out cure their apnea!

Second, for people not tainted by "aromatherapy" claims, the word "therapy" in a cpap product is at least confusing.

And it does not really describe what the product is intended to do, which is just to make cpap comfortable if not somewhat pleasant, as well as assist in equipment desensitization.

So, those comments in particular were timely because, as I mentioned, I was literally editing the brochure the night that those comments were made!

Now all I have to figure out is how to distribute samples! Any ideas would be appreciated.

PEACE is my absolute favorite. It is such a pleasant-smelling lavender, not soapy at all like some others. My other favorites are DEEP, SPICE and CALM.

Consider me strange, but I really do not like aromatherapy. It tends to give me a headache. If that were not the case, I would probably appreciate the chance to sample the product.
