The CS rep told me today that it is already grounded (has the pin included), and can be used in any country--not just Europe as the name implies. Does anyone here have doubts about this item? And Bill, I wondered if your device (above post) would be necessary with it.

It wouldn't be my choice, they won't show you a view of the back, where it grounds, and from the limited pic, it appears not to be grounded (2 Pins) And too costly. Nothing you can carry can make up for low voltage, at best it might take a surge hit (once), the the protection is gone. Jim

I actually forgot I had one of these. I found it at a Radio Shack Outlet for $2. I bought two of them. I primarily use it as a plug converter (gives 2 Type B - Standard American plugs rather than 1) See http://users.telenet.be/worldstandards/ ... tm#plugs_a for the different types of plugs.

It does ground. It has the ground bars on top and bottom to work with the ground clips of a Type F socket, and it also has the ground hole to work with a Type E socket. It's very similar to the plugs pictured in the link above for Type E and F.

I honestly don't know how good of a surge protector it is... It's probably better than nothing.

Thanks, all. So CraigTX, are you saying that you have an identical item from Radio Shack? I do have all the adapters I will ever need, so that is not the issue. I was really hearing Jim's comments to be sure of the grounding, and it sounds like you are confirming that it is appropriately grounded? I have no hope of trying to cover every single contingency such as the previously unthought-of drop in power. Mostly I did not want for my apap to be fried by power surges. What to do? Surely there are others who travel more than I do, and have figured this out.

Yes, it is IDENTICAL to the one pictured in the link. Except the back label says RADIO SHACK CAT NO. 273-1440. Seems like an old item, as I can't find any info on it. The only thing I found was:

As I mentioned, it will provide grounding for both Type E or Type F plugs. It is definitely a grounded outlet.
