I have a counter theory, that many cases of what is usually called dementia (and perhaps some who are labelled with Alzheimers, may well be people with severe untreated apnea who after 20 or so years of depleting their brain, start to lose their memories. I put my own mother clearly in this category. ............
My mother is 86 and has dementia but otherwise seems physically healthy and just passed a full physical with flying colors. Mom has snored loudly for decades and I suspect she has had sleep apnea for decades.
What do you do at this point? She would never understand, much less tolerate cpap. I have fears that the last years of her life could be long and painful.
