I have the CMS-50F. It has a built-in rechargeable battery.
As best I can tell, it is not easily replaceable.
Why ? What battery type use this unit ? AA - AAA - 1/2AA 3,6 Volts or others?
p.s.: perhaps asking directly to CONTEC can tell you where to find them!

I have no idea what battery type is in this unit. If you have an interest, suggest you contact the manufacturer or importer to find out.
I have no intention of trying to pry it apart to find out until my battery quits working.

No worries about the English.
The battery in the CMS-50F is a
one small lithium rechargeable battery, apparently soldered into the unit and is not replaceable. So when the battery no longer works, you cannot replace it with a new rechargeable battery. You have to buy a whole new oximeter when the battery no longer works - or you have to know something about soldering electronics components.
The CMS-60D uses
two AA batteries that can be either standard alkaline or rechargeable. AA batteries are easily available anywhere in the US.
I'm not sure the batteries in the CMS-60D will last a full 24 hours straight, but I haven't tried it. So although the unit says it can record 24 hours of continuous data, I'm wondering if 2 AA batteries will power it all the way through. I've used it for about 15 hours so far, and the battery level meter looks like it's not going to make it another 8 hours, but I can't be sure. I'll let you know after tonight.

Ahhhhhhh, now it's OK!!! It's a bad mistake for users! For producers " BUSINNESS IS BUSINNESS" !!

Two more considerations on this oximeter:
The AA batteries that came with the unit lasted through the night and may last longer, so this means one set of batteries would last a full 24 hours. It's likely the batteries will last considerably longer. We'll see.
There is no way to change default settings on the spo2 review or spo2 software. I wish it would allow me to bring up on or more default patient settings, including name, weight, height, etc. and low and hi graph pulse rate and spo2. Having to fill these out each time might be useful in a hospital setting, but not so much at home. My default low pulse rate at night is down near 40. There's no reason why the computer couldn't remember these settings. In the mean time, it's as simple as adding one check box on the "session data" dialog box with the words "Save settings as default" and one check box in the "graph setting" dialog box with the words "Save settings as default". Then just change the defaults in the registry if the box is checked, eh?

1. Do you know if this unit used standard usb driver for WinXP or a special driver got installed as part of the install? It is a bit difficult to tell, but perhaps you can determine if the driver that is now used by the system (under myComputer->mangage menu) is one that is already approved by MS. If it is a standard driver it is a big plus in that there is much less chance of this interfering/conflicting with other usb devices and systems in the long run.
2. Do you know how long the battery might last?
3. It is a bit unbelievable with all these good features built in, they did not put in a clock on the system!!
4. What was the spec, if any, for the accuracy?
Drivers:
There there are three proprietary drivers installed by the software:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\silabenm.sys,
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\silabser.sys,
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WdfConinstaller01005.dll
for something called Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM7)
The way it's set up, I doubt it would interfere with other USB installs on WinXP.
Accuracy Comparison to the SPO 7500:
Accuracy specs compared with another popular machine:
Code: Select all
CMS-60D SPO 7500
SPO2:
Measurement Range: 35% - 99% 40% - 99%
Resolution: 1% 1%
Accuracy: +- 2%* +/- 2%
Heart (Pulse) Rate:
Measurement Range: 30 - 250 BPM 40 - 250 bpm
Resolution: 1 BPM 1BPM
Accuracy: +- 2% +/- 3%
*in range 70% - 100%
So the accuracy is about the same as one of the more popular oximeters on this board. I was not able to find out what type of accuracy the SPO 7500 has at lower SpO2 levels.
Battery Duration:
I have not changed the batteries yet, but have so far used it for well over 24 hours. I'll report back on how long they last. (Alkaline batteries came with the oximeter. I'll try some rechargeables after these are dead.)

DreamDiver, Thank you for answering my questions.
BTW, the current battery your are testing for life, is that rechargeable NiMh, NiCd or regular non-rechargeable alkaline? [DreamDiver ans: alkaline]

There are other Comtec pulse oximeter models, such as the CMS 60C, which use a Lithium cell-phone-style rechargable battery pack, which is easily field replaceable by the user.
Cheers,

Cool. I've seen this same model quoted on some sites in China as having the rechargeable lithium battery pack you're talking about.
Contec has a lot of different oximeters:

I have the CMS 50-E and have twice emailed Comtec asking about the latest version of software and how to get the unit calibrated.
NO RESPONSE AT ALL ... not even a FU.

Don't know what it does to the accuracy factor but my SPO7500 has recorded Pulse Rates down to 35 BPM even though the specs say it only goes down to 40 BPM. Are the Specs saying that only the accuracy is only maintained between 40 and 250 BPM?

Yes. Outside that, they cannot guarantee the accuracy.

What is the sampling rate? You can go as low as one second on the 7500.

It's fixed at one sample per second, I believe.
I've seen no settings for changing that.
