Since I live near a store with high quality essential oils, I just made my own little pad and bought my own fragrances. I mostly use lavendar as it is a well known aromatherapy treatment for helping you to have restful sleep (as well as headache reduction). I seriously was going to buy the pur sleep product for ease of use but this turned out to be just as easy. Not cheaper though. The cost of high quality essential oils can vary and I chose to get a very high grade of French Lavendar oil (there is both French and English and they vary).
This sounds interesting, but I have one question. Will my husband be able to smell it? He doesn't even like air fresheners in the bathroom, etc!
It is unlikely that it will bother him even if he does smell it. You only need a tiny drop, maybe two. In aromatherapy, the stronger effect is related to smaller doses of the smell. You may not even notice it much even with the pad placed near the air intake of your cpap. See if sleepguy is willing to let you return for partial payment anything unused and if so, I would go for it. Aromatherapy is really great and as I said, I would have bought from him except I have this awesome store less than a mile from me (sleepguy - maybe you should see about getting your stuff carried there?)
Just a little paper sample in a 42 cent envelope and I could decide which one to buy next...worth thinking about!
Sleepguy will answer this, I am sure, but my understanding of aromatherapy oils is that the scent doesn't linger very long. If he sent you that teeny bit of paper, it would arrive scentless unless he used about 20 or more drops - in which case that is much more than a sample with the pricing for most essential oils. That is 20 nights worth! The very reason they aren't horrible air freshener types of smells is also why they don't last long on a piece of paper. They are not synthetic fragrences, but are essential oils. Once it dries up, bye bye smell.

Not sure what I am doing wrong...I ordered the delux so I could try the different aromas....most of them smell like turpentine to me....I can't get through an hour without dumping it....I use a few drops...its not easy to get just one drop out of the container.
The only one that I can stand is the vanilla one.

That just shows you how individual scents can be....I had the exact opposite experience, where I found the vanilla to be cloying, but the naturals to be unobtrusive.
You could always try trading the ones you don't like on this board.

I, too, use the pur sleep system and love the way it smells (especially compared to the silicone smell of the mask and hose). My favorite scents so far are the vanilla, deep, and fresh ... never was a big fan of lavender but I love citrus. I haven't tried the candy line yet but I plan to when i get low on my current supply. My husband has not had any complaints about the scents and his sense of smell is very sharp so if he didn't like it I'd hear about it.

The best bet is, as an above poster said, see about trading away the scents you don't like (perhaps we could even get a sticky thread for such an exchange?) - smell is a very powerful sense even for us humans with our minuscule olfactory perception abilities; it has very strong emotional and psychological ties - personal preference will make a big difference in your particular scent choices and your ability to enjoy (and benefit from) the pur sleep system.
echo wrote:rain out will be due to condensation, and may or may not be affected by placing the cpap higher
My understanding is that rain-out is caused more by having a cool room temperature which will cause the heated air in the hose to likewise cool and release the moisture it picked up going through the humidifier, which is why having a cover on the hose to provide insulation and keep it warmer helps - my machine is level with my bed and my hose is passed around and through my headboard to keep it up out of my cat's reach, and i rarely have significant problems with rain-out unless the air conditioning has been set lower than usual.

I just ordered a starter kit, with the understanding between me & hub that if it "gunks up" his Ionic Breeze, I have to send it back. Since he hardly ever cleans the filter, I bet he won't notice anything

Being legally astute, Bret doesn't make any wild outrageous claims about his product.
No one where would claim they will CURE you - but they WILL make your experience of the CPAP much more pleasant. Some people here report they were never 100% compliant before Pur Sleep. They had issues with ripping the mask off in their sleep before they tried Pur Sleep.
Me, I just love it alot and think it's a very welcome addition to my sleep routine.

Try holding the pad on top of the bottle. Invert and return to upright quickly. This allows only a small amount of oil to get on the pad. For me, I put the pad on my tile counter and tap the bottle upside down onto the pad quickly to get 4-5 drops. This method however would probably result in you getting too much on the pad for your liking.

Debbie (and others) this is an excellent idea that has been made in the past. I've spent quite a bit of time researching this over the last many months and have found a paper diffusion material that works very well. We're in the process of adding samples in the form of a paper pad in a small zip-lock bag, pre-scented with the "flavor" indicated on the sticker on the bag. I anticipate that this will work out well! So thanks for all of the great feedback and comments.

I got my starter kit on Saturday and I've been loving it! I'm sticking with the Peace for now - I figure I'll change scents every couple of weeks to mix it up. The diffuser tray is pretty too!

I slowly making my way through all the scents in the deluxe pack and my favs are long gone. I don't particularly like Paradise, but used it last night and had a fabulous long deep sleep. Hummm. Guess I'll have to try it again.

I have to add that I've been using the Pur-Sleep aromatherapy almost since I started xPAP......
It eliminated that plastic odor that the machine, hose and mask have -- even after being cleaned with vinegar -- the vinegar smell wears off quickly and you have plastic.
I use it every night!!!!
I recently went on a trip for 5 days and thought I'd forgotten to pack it for the first two nights!!! I found it on the 3rd day and slept better the last 3 nights.
I can't say that it makes me sleep better, or go to sleep more quickly, or......
BUT, I can say that it makes this therapy much more pleasant!!! Save one night (where we didn't have power), I've been 100% compliant, and the Pur-Sleep system has made it much easier to strap the mask on every night!!!!
My fav's??? Peace, Fresh, Spice, Clear and Strawberry.....(I like the bubble gum scent also, but I can't find the bottle)
Bret has a great product and it's worth a try -- and as mentioned in a previous post in this thread -- he has a 100% satisfaction guarantee!!!!
cheers
