Auto-On On for Remstar Pro M Series does not work

Post by dderrick » Wed Jun 11, 2008 8:56 pm

The Auto-On feature of my Remstar Pro M Series C-Pap stopped working after traveling on a plane and using the C-Pap min nthe Hotel. When operating normallt you can put on the mask and after a few seconds the machine will start after detecting breathing within the mask, I noticed whyen I first plugged in the macine the lights on the fron blinked a few times and the machine would start by itself immedialely after plugging in and without the mask on the face. I wold turn the machine off using the On-Off buton on the top. Afet about 3 or 4 times within a few minutes I got the machine to stay off without it turning on by itself after a few minutes.

I noticed after this that the machine would no longer turn-on automatically after putting on the mask. The onloy way to start the C-Pap is with the On-Off button on the top. This is the second time within the month I had the same thing to happen. After swapping out the C-Pap the second machine Auto-On funciton worked fine at home but after a plane trip the Auto-On would not work. The C-Pap was carried on and was not checked with Baggage,

Does anybody know what will cuase the auto-on to stop working and if this machine is prone to malfunciton in this manner?

Check the clinic menu and see if it is turned off. Then we will discuss how it could have been turned off.

Some masks have a vent rate too high to allow the XPAP to sense you are breathing. The correction is to push the start button. Jim

As Suggested I checked the Clinic Menu to view the status of an Auto-On feature but did not see an entry of this per se, Here are the various options:

Therapy Mode: CPAP
VPAP Pressure: 14.0 cmH20
C-Clex Setting: 2
Ramp Time: 45 MinRamp Start Pressure: 4.0
Mask Alert: Feature: On
Auto Off: Feature: On
Show Ahi/Leak: Feature: Off
Patient Reminder: Off

Statistics:
System DateL Therapy Hours: 406.0
Blower Hours: 429.9.
*** I noticed that since this problem started Therapy Hours does not increase but Blower Hours does increase. The mask is not leaking.

System Leak: L/Min: 7 Day Average: 58.3, 30 day Average: 59.3
APN-Hyp Index: 7 Day Avg: AHI=3.1, 10 Day Avg: AHI:=3.4

*** What does this mean?

Auto On is not in the menu and can not be turned off. It is a safety feature in case you have a power surge it will turn itself back on. Jim is correct that some masks have a vent rate that makes it hard for it to function but since yours worked before the trip and now it does not it can't be that. I had a mask one time that I had to cover the vents with my finger and take a couple of breaths to get it to come on. Check your hose and connections for leaks. You might try that and see if that will make it work, otherwise I suspect it is problem in the main circuit board.

I think this is just coincidence--but my Respir M Series APAP went on the blink the night after an air trip. The APAP was not put in checked luggage. The machine began going on automatically, could not stop it, then went out completely. ????

I don't believe in coincidence. I think things happen for a reason. Now with 2 people having the same problem after air travel, my first response is that it has something to do with the air pressure on planes!!

New poll idea!

FYI: Usually CPAP goes under the seat. This trip it went into the overhead compartment? This shouldn't make a difference???

Could there be a problem with the auto altitude adjustment on these machines? Maybe unstable pressures just freak these things out causing the boards to fry or the logic to lock up.

Were they on the same airline, flight?
