I would be careful with you luggage. I traveled by bus one time and had a 2+ hr layover. They took the luggage out of the bus and put it on something w/ wheels (I thought they would bring it inside). They left it outside during the entire layover with nobody watching it!!!! I sat right by it to make sure my luggage was ok (which means no bathroom break for me! So just be careful they don't leave your luggage (with possibly your xPAP machine) unattended!!! This was greyhound so you'd think they would know better.

I will have to say that one of the most beautiful mental images I've gotten was on that train trip going towards Seattle......(mental image because I didn't have a camera at hand).
About 5:30am I woke up and out the window was a snow covered Mt. Shasta and with the sunrise angle, the mountain itself was absolutely shining gold....it looked like it had been coated with gold.....absolutely gorgeous!!!!
Understand what you're saying slinky!!!! I love taking the train for short stints, but never again will I take the train for an extended trip without booking a sleeper -- but that costs nearly as much as a 1st class flight!!!!!
Bert -- have a great trip!!!!! I'm sure that whatever you choose to do, it will be fun!!!!
take care
cheers

THANK for everybody's input...
I have taken three train trips and ENJOYED each -- I'm in NO RUSH to get anywhere & talking to other travelers & having a sleeping cabin BEATS being in a center seat like a SAUSAGE after 2 hrs of scanning and BS of the airlines or setting on a RUNWAY for a couple HRS...
SWEAR NOT to do IT AGAIN!!!!! I played SAUSAGE 13 hrs going to Germany then again coming back.....
Traveled by BUS while in the service -BUT- that was YEAR ago... JUST thought it would be different and a EXPERIENCE?? That was why I ask for INPUT..
Setting in the seat at night with mask & Battery CPAP was in the plan/thoughts during night travel... Being able to talk with other travelers And seeing the country side without doing the driving
< I travel 3-4 times per year by car! --- BUT gas prices and other thing ..WAS Looking into OPTIONS!>
I have HITCHHIKED across the country twice and rode a ten speed bike across once BUT that was a zillion years younger Don't shive a get about security

What the hay. Go for it and ENJOY, Bert! And when you touch down w/access to a 'puter, share your experience w/us, please.
And, by the way, it sounds from your previous experiences, that I could benefit from you in learning to travel light. Something I REALLY DO need some serious lessons on!

What am I missing here....comment was that the poster was going to be traveling by bus and asking about CPAP, not that everyone give their opinion about whether they like bus travel or train travel...LOLOLOLOL.

Maybe this:
Sleep apnea can cause serious brain injury http://origin.whittierdailynews.com/news/ci_9546082
At least that's my standing excuse.

If you can stand one more vote in favor of train travel, from a CPAP point of view:
On Amtrak, it's not so difficult to get a seat with an actual power outlet available, which means no battery/charger necessary.
