Let's try to be here for EACHOTHER in therapy, cleaning issues, health problems, and best of all the good humor and jokes..

This is one forum that we shouldn't be fighting and bickering amognst ourselves..

When I don't necessarly AGREE with someone's OPINION, I don't say anything and I sure don't make fun of them or try to get an entire forum to laugh about it, that's uncouth, and that's just what dreamstalker did to nice Oceanpearl and I am in shock over this one, ENOUGH is ENOUGH ! BE NICE Dreamstalker, or just don't leave your rude as@! comments to people..

Voicing your NICE OPINION is one thing but to laugh, bash, make rude comments, and to ROLL your eyes to our nice people on this wonderful forum, and try to get others to agree with you and laugh with you and ruin their day is completely another, MAN, behave yourself!

Shame on you, really and i'm not trying to be a smart as#! either, I just think we should all get along here, after all that is what this forum is all about RESPECT and CONSIDERATION of others!

How would you feel if the forum members treated you this way and made rude comments evertime you posted a topic? Think about it, someday it's liable to catch up with you and bit you in the but!

When something is heated, and then left out at room temp for hours, it tends to become a little slimy, even after boiling water for 5 or 10 minutes...

F & P HC-150 HEATED humidifier for 5+ years, humidifier and hose rinsed once a month with mild dish washing liquid solution, and never saw ANYTHING growing in them. Hose and mask is not even hung up during the day, it just tossed on the bed. Maybe the mold is caused by spores being sucked into the machine from the local environment?

Oceanpearl, I'm so sorry that you've had trouble with these infections. Hopefully, you will be rid of them soon.

I use and really like the Pur-sleep aroma therapy. As I use my humidifier in passover, I no longer daily wash the tank, but watch it for a low water level and add distilled water when needed. Last week, when I took out the tank to check it, I noticed that the remaining water was bubbly and a little clouded. I sniffed it to see if it smelled "brackish". It wasn't, but it had a distinctive pur-sleep odor. I've since started washing the tank every 2 or 3 days. My point is that we can sometimes develop unexpected problems with our therapy equipment. I think that the information that Ozij provided is quite accurate. There are many variables to deal with so that there will be a huge variety of experiences.

I tend to clean my hose every 6 months or so whether it needs it or not. I haven't noticed any problems with it and the replacements suck compared to the OEM's as others have noted.
How the heck do you get an OEM hose from the DME??? Those chincy hoses they supply as replacements leave a lot to be desired!!!!
I only rinse out my HH tank once a month or so - only use distilled water and haven't noticed any issues......I do notice issues with the integrated HH if you take it apart to clean regularly. The seal deteriorates and the tank will begin to leak in a short time. I have an HC150, but need to re-design a bedside table to start using it....

I do clean my mask parts religiously!!!! All 4 masks that I use!!!! I find a clean mask seals much better than one that's a few days from the vinegar and water.

Lungs are one of my "weak points" so I generally tend to do things that keep them working well. I do monitor my hose's condition regularly but so far it's been ok.....

I had trouble with a mildew smell coming from my hose. I had to wash it every night or it got worse. Now it seems less of a problem, but I have two hoses and let one dry while I use the other. Also, the AC is on, and rainout seems less problematic than it was in the winter, so water doesn't really sit in the hose like it did in the winter. Go figure.

I went all the way back to 2005 and read the posts and I gotta say, there was some really funny stuff in there, I was rolling on a few of those back and forth comments from Oceanpearl and Dreamstalker, the picture really had me rolling...

I use passover mode, warming up the water would grow more things, the HH warm the water it doesn't boil it. When mine starts to smell funky, I dump it and start over with fresh distilled. Jim

I use the HC150 on a setting of about 2.5 (around 2 in th winter) and mine hasn't grown anything. I can't even get it to smell. I suppose I could crank it all the way up to 4 but I think the humidity would be way overboard for me.

If you live in the USA and have city or county water, your tap water will more than likely resist mold and bacteria growth far longer than either distilled or RO water.
Even distilled water will be seeded from the constant stream of air blowing over it. Most mold spores and bacteria as well as a food source, will be introduced from the air stream and not the water itself.
Municipal water supplies add disinfectants and mold inhibitors, (chloramine, a form of chlorine and ammonia. )

When I clean my mask and hh I clean and soak with tap water then rinse with RO.

I'm not saying to use tap water in your hh as I use only RO. What I'm saying is using distilled water doesn't protect your hh from mold or bacteria growth. You still need to clean.

From what I understand there is a stubborn cold spreading all around the country this past month.

My whole household has it. My mother, at the moment is in the hospital with Pneumonia.

How do you know it's not from that?

I'm so lazy when it comes to this. I use distilled water and wash my masks almost every day (sometimes just use those wipes). But, rarely hang up my hose and never have washed it---it's a heated hose and I'm not sure how to wash it. I do check the hose about once every two weeks with a flashlight as best I can to check for anything that shouldn't be there!! LOL The non-removeable cover makes checking the entire hose difficult.

My M-series HH smelled really bad once when it ran out of water. (I had just gone to bed and had forgotten to fill it--only took a few minutes for the smell to start up.) Took a couple nights for the smell to go completely away. But I have taken the data card out and run the machine with the HH off and no water in the tank for a few minutes to dry out anything that might be wet in the hose since I can't inspect the entire hose with that cover on it.

Any suggestions on the proper way to wash/clean a heated hose (the Aussie one)?

Second, do you use a Bacterial Filter? It should help.

I worry more about spiders or other creepy crawlers climbing in the hose when I hang it up to dry. I try to give it air flow before I put it on and hope they loose traction first. Jim
