If I am not mistaken 1.8i Release 2 is version 1.8i.65 and was supposed to fix some of the Vista problems in 1.8i.49. I did not get a copy of 1.8i.65 before it went away.

I am using Vista Home also. It took me a very long time to get Ecore Pro to install too. My problem was that there was another SQL server already on the computer and the download will not install if that is the case. It took me a long time to find and delete it. After I did that, the Encore installed just fine.

Good Luck!

Do you happen to know what software installed the SQL server?

you sometimes have to right click on the SQL Agent on the task bar and STOP the database engine if you are in the process of installing. The new version should install over the old but there are some security changes from the various versions on how it logs in. In the olden days of SQL login was sa and password was sa, that changed some time ago when the SQL trojan attacked SQL installs.

So you have to make sure you are logged on the computer as an Administrator when installing then it should also prompt you for a startup account that has administrative rights (to start the service).

The bad part about Encore software is it relies on the Microsoft SQL Desktop engine, if you have the Server version of SQL installed it sorta goes south and bombs on install.

Try reinstalling it again and rebooting, leave your card reader plugged into the USB port when doing that and you should use the SAME USB port every time for the card reader (don't swap ports etc.).

The SQL database is backed up when you reinstall.

If you are on the Server version of the OS Encore may not install at all.

Thanks for explaining that to me. I just figured out that I have to get rid of the SQL server already on the machine. Once I did that, Encore Pro installed. Also Mindy explained about changing a setting to keep the smart card from disappearing card reader.
So thanks for the explain.
