As a moderator on a very active automotive forum, there is Automatic software to block certain IP's. My guess is that it took a little while to pop on.

All of this forum vs. forum is very sad, but reminiscent of the forum that I moderate and one of our "rival" boards. My board is populated by the "older" crowd - from early 30's on up. The "rival" board is populated by high teens to high 20's, and they can't for the life of them understand why we would want to pay for someone to work on our cars. So they make fun of us on their board. Their moderators delete posts and black hole threads at random and it is pandemonium.

It's too bad that a few bad apples have to spoil the bunch.

Well, I've always liked Mike (mikesus when he was posting on this board) and still do. I don't agree with him about some things nowadays, but I still think he's a smart man who is doing his best to help people too...in his own way.

EVERY apnea support message board is a good thing, imho, even if I much prefer the open way this board is run. (Thanks, Johnny!)

Anyway, I couldn't resist putting in my two cents (and my two favorite "mikesus-provided" links) in that thread over there.

I just read your most recent post over there and wanted to say that you mentioned some of the things that had been going through my mind as far as arguments to his statements.

You're entitled to your opinion about Mike, but to me his "do as I say and not as I do" (or have done) really rubs me the wrong way (to put it mildly).
Yes, it's good that there are a number of forums available to many, many people that have problems or questions about this therapy.....but when the best advice they can come up with is "Go back and see your doctor." (or related professional)......it's kind of pathetic, when it very well may be that those people put them in this position in the first place. In many cases, it's hard enough to be able to connect with a doctor in the first place......and when it involves some little "thing" that could easily be resolved by a little more knowledge/information from a person who isn't allowed to give it because it's against some "forum rules"......well, that's just not right.

Giggle. Boy this subject can stir up the herd, can't it?? And bring out the sense of humor too. Ah well. The post just happened to push one my buttons and I couldn't leave it alone. I'm grateful to be in such good company. (And for those of you who stopped in a voice your opinion - thanks for the support!).

By the way, that forum is NOT so close-minded and restrictive as this discussion may lead newbies to believe. They do allow PMs, something that TAS for instance doesn't. So .... and they do have some good information on their various links. I suspect the PM availability is in recognition that sometimes it doesn't hurt to pass on some information that they can't publicly allow.

And IndyJudy, I didn't get the fully data capable CPAP for you. I just loaned you a few tools, you're the one who did the work, and quite nicely, I might add. You got your own equipment, I didn't.

My problem with Mike is he's a damn liar.

When I got into with him he was posting false information about Pur-sleep. He didn't give a damn that what he was saying was false either.

OH , now I know why they say we have "CPAP POLICE", it sounds like this Mikeus could possibly be one of THEM

Well, there have been "anonymous" posts by someone calling themselves "CPAP Police", but there have been other "Guest" posts that weren't quite as friendly as that one.......and I often suspected that Mike may have been one ot them. Pure speculation on my part though.

should not be and need not necessarily be mutually exclusive options. BOTH are very good ingredients, best when cooked together! Both WE and THEY tend to be too polarized. Post titles like "Further proof that doctors are not always right" are just red herrings. OF COURSE doctors are not always right. We ALL know that. But too rarely here are we reminded that WE are not always right, either. (Well, the rest of you, anyway. I'm a special case.) Not always as smart as we think. Not always as objective as we should be.

Rigidity, whether on THAT board, or on THIS board, is not helpful. Certainly very frustrating to fair, open minded, balanced, sensible people (like me). The rest of you (I love you anyway, Slinky) get so emotionally involved! (Did I mention lack of objectivity?) Everyone, please, lighten up!

I entirely agree, Velbor.

That the ASAA should have an organizational right to take various health-related positions and enforce those positions on their own message board seems entirely reasonable to me. I personally hope that newcomers to sleep apnea manage to find several message boards with differing views and policies---so that they might decide for themselves which path to pursue in their health quest.

I personally feel that it would be a travesty to convert the ASAA message board into a clone of cpaptalk.com. Just as I feel that it would be a travesty to expect everyone here to maintain the same values and express the same views.

I think many of us are here for the same reason that I am: because we strongly prefer to think, breathe, and act independently. Why then should we even implicitly disallow others---even organizations---the independence to act in accordance with their own deeply considered charters and policies?
