The first time I posted, I used the [img] tags and the image links showed broken.

When I edited the post, I added direct links to the images using the tags. Since neither has worked I upda ... scan_issue

Please, let me know if you have any issues seeing the images so I can find yet another way to post my images!

To answer your question about the blinking green light on the reader:

I did a download this morning and yup, when "dormant" the reader's green light blinks on a regular basis, when I do a download, whilst downloading the frequency of the green light's blinks changes to some blinks in quick succession, then a pause, and the same blinking in quick succession and pause again during the download.

Forgive me for asking an obvious question, but, is the cable reader plugged directly into your 'puter or are you using (for lack of remembering the correct term) an extender cable? I've not had any problem w/my Resmed cable reader, but often the Respironics cable reader wouldn't work w/the extension and I had to pull out the tower and plug the cable reader directly into the back of the tower.

Slinky: The card reader is plugged directly into the USB ports on each PC I have tried it on. I have tried the software/card reader combo on 4 different machines now, with the same results. I am wondering if the VPAP Auto is compatible with the ResScan software v3.3. When I insert the Smart Card into the machine itself I get no errors, only when I return it to the reader/ResScan do I have an issue.

Could it be that the card contacts and the reader contacts are misaligning? Seems like I read something about that regarding a respironics issue a long time ago. I can't offer a solution, just a theory.

I do not *BELIEVE* it is an alignment issue; it is a new ResMed reader with ResScan Data cards. Also, I was able to successfully test a new card in the reader before I inserted it in the VPAP Auto. To add confusion to the issue, the reader reports a card that is inserted BACKWARDS as a "Blank Card", but a card that is inserted with the contacts up (As they should be) as an "Unrecognized Device".

I agree. That does sound confusing. It almost seems as if up is down and down is up in this confusing data retrieval micro-world. Your "correctly" oriented data is unrecognizable while your "reversed" and physically inaccessible data is intelligently interpreted as if it were a blank card.

If I had read absolutely nothing more than the part I have quoted above, I might wonder if the card was inserted correctly when it very intelligently reports blank data. Very confusing.

If up may be down and down may be up, why not try a truly wacky Alice in Wonderland experiment? Place the card in your machine just as upside down in an attempt to record data. Then place the card just as upside down in your reader to see if it still reads as blank.

If that wacky Alice in Wonderland experiment works, then you may be stuck turning your monitor upside down each morning to correctly read those reports.

LOL - Nice but you missed it - I did not insert the card upside down, but backwards. When ResScan reported the device as a "Blank Card" I was looking at the gold contacts sticking OUT of the reader while the other end of the card, the printed end, was inserted into the reader.

Oh, well forget it. Alice is clearly not involved here. She's probably having tea with an apneic friend. Caffeine seems to help that friend.

Does your reader happen to show up as a working hardware device in the Windows OS (device manager)? Maybe Bill, Slinky, or the others who use a Resmed reader will think of something better. A eureka moment is needed here.

And you want to be doubly sure that the image is from a reliable source that won't change it on you unexpectantly. I speak from experience.


As for the original post, I would still double check that you don;t have another piece of hardware interfering with the card reader. The "blank card" response is how mine acted as well. Every once in a while I would get a quick recognition and once it even told me the card was corrupt.

LOL! I missed that second racy image. But it sure sounds like that was one outrageously funny hoot. Likely unexpected payback.

My guess is the administrator of your "hot-linked" content didn't like having their bandwidth allocated to this message board. That annoyed administrator probably doled out a little revenge. My guess is that they intentionally changed out the contents of that image file you "hot-linked" to--- with the very best of intentions for your fellow cpaptalk.com members.

I think I'd be tempted to go over to device manager then "view resouces by connection". Then I'd see which connections shared the same IRQ with the Resmed reader. I'd experimentally turn those off, one or more at a time, to see if I could eventually read data off the Resmed card reader.

One more thought: open ResScan 3.3, before trying to download, check the various patient file pages and see if for the file you want to download to there isn't an option somewhere for selecting Device and see if there is a selection for Generic.

I tried downloading the old data on my Elite from last week into a new file and couldn't do it UNTIL I entered the device AND the software version that is installed inside the Elite. As soon as I told ResScan 3.4 what the software version of the Elite was it was willing to do the download.

The thing is I didn't get any type of message that the data card wasn't recognized when I tried it before entering the Elite's software version but, hey, w/everything else you've been going thru ..... what's one more thing to try?
