if i gave the impression that it was my fiancee who cared about the mask appearance, that was misleading --- i was the vain one who, at the onset of my treatment, was concerned about having a mask that wasn't ugly. maybe that concern was coming from how i thought my fiancee would react to it, but it was something in my head, not hers. she kind of chuckles at how it looks, but is happy i'm getting rest, and is seeing me be less irritable/grumpy, which she really appreciates.
my thanks to the gentleman from d.c. who answered my question re the blowing --- i.e., less leaks. seems like i need to get a nasal mask instead of my swift II pillows.
