I reread this thread and the posts by ozij may be apt here. Could you be having "mouth leaks" as ozij asks?

My pressure was upped from 6 to 8 (low compared to your pressures) and I started getting "mouth leaks". Not that my mask (CL2) seal was leaking, but rather, air was escaping through my mouth. Sometimes it seemed to take a while to wake me up and my mouth might feel dry.

I think any and all air escaping through your mouth (mouth leaks) is summed into your leak rate (40), so your mask could have a perfect seal (zero leakage over the designed leak rate) but your data could still show a high (mouth) leak rate.

So I take it that anything over the leak rate on the chart is too much. I have thought about a mouth leak, but I don't have a sore throat in the morning. And if mouth leaking is the problem, then by upping my pressure (probably unnecessarily),that just made it worse - do you think? I guess I will try mouth taping to see if that helps.

Thanks, izzyb

I would think upping the pressure could make mouth leaks worse (it seemed to in my case, and I'm at a fairly low pressure of 7.5 cmh2o now), but at the same time, raising the pressure could reduce apneas (assuming mouth leaks can be eliminated).

I've been wanting to try mouth taping myself. Dang it, I was at the store today and forgot the Poli-grip strips! (The wife is starting to think I've lost it.)

[quote="izzyb"]Thanks everyone for all the suggestions:

I have read up on the gluton intolerance and thought about it a lot. It is definately a possibility. I don't know if I can give up bread though. If I could I would have already done it to lose weight. I am addicted to it.

Well, I tried the mouth taping last night. It didn't really bother me...in a way it was comforting like wearing my mask...I know, I'm weird. Anyway, I had reset my machine to zero and I was so excited to check it this morning. But, for some reason it didn't register. Everything except my hours was still at zero. I don't know what that is all about. Oh, and the one thing that did bother me about the tape is getting the goo off this morning. That is rough on your skin.

zorrro 13, I rarely ever cook...it is just me and I never want to cook again.
And by bread I also mean cake, cookies, garlic bread, etc. The next time I go for my check up I think I will insist on that test being done and if I have it I'll go from there.

Hey, how come I can't get the Emoticons to work?

Thanks, izzyb

The M machines like to take 2 days vacations from time to time.

A little mineral oil will remove any left over tape residue.

I have no idea why the emoticons seem to work for some and not others.

You can enable emoticons as an option in your profile (scroll down to find it) and you can alse enable and disable them per message by clicking in the relevant box beneath the message window.

bdp522, I thought about baby oil, but it will cause my face to break out. I just rubbed it until it balled up and came off. I don't want to do that every morning though.

ozij, it shows that my emoticons are on.

I use micropore tape, and have very little to no residue left when I peel it off in the morning.

Strange about the emoticons. :? I'm disabling mine for this message to see what happens.

Oh, by the way - could it be browser related?

O.

Edit: Ok, with emoticons disabled you see the ":?" - in Izzy's posts I don't even see that....

I deleted the .

Yes, it very well could be my browser. I use Firefox most of the time and I know it is limited as far as those things are concerned. I just didn't think of that. I will try to remember to use Internet Explorer sometime and see if it works then.

I also use firefox and have inconsistent emoticons. If I put two emoticons in the same post one might work and the other won't. Sometimes I type them in manually ( like typing: [colon]twisted[colon] when clicking doesn't work and that works, but other times it doesn't. Really erratic. May be firefox.

If you use the mineral oil to remove the tape residue, then wash your face, it shouldn't cause any problems. Keep in mind it only takes a couple of drops to do the job.

Fatigue and low iron stores (ferritin)

Izzyb, you mentioned having intermittent anemia. Here is some very important info for women suffering from fatigue, especially in your case since you have a tendency to anemia:

That severe iron-deficiency leads to anemia as manifested by low hemoglobin and hematocrit on a CBC blood test is well known. However, mild iron-deficiency leads to low ferritin in blood tests BEFORE a drop in hemoglobin and hematocrit occurs. An article published in the May 2003 British Medical Journal showed that patients with low ferritin, but normal hemoglobin and hematocrit, have fatigue that is reversed by iron treatment.

Another article I read was of great interest to me because I have suffered from fatigue for a long time and was always frustrated because my doctors would not believe me when I told them exercise made my fatigue worse.

Regular, low-intensity workouts such as a leisurely stroll can boost energy levels by 20 percent and decrease fatigue by 65 percent, a team at the University of Georgia found.

...

To their surprise, the researchers found the low-intensity group reported better reduction in fatigue than those who worked out harder.

"It could be that moderate-intensity exercise is too much for people who are already fatigued and that might contribute to them not getting as great an improvement as they would had they done the low-intensity exercise," O'Connor said in a statement.

And one last thing, if your doctor is not knowledgeable about thyroid, see an endocrinologist if you can. Hypothyroidism is pretty common as women get older, you should look up the symptoms. I'm surprised a doctor these days would not be familiar with the basics of thyroid disease enough to at least know how to screen you for it.

Would you look at that. I typed the symbols the way ozij did and for once the emoticon showed up. Wierd!
