That is not defensive medicine, that is GOOD medicine. Kudos to your dentist.
I just went through a "deep cleaning" at the dentist office myself in January.

It involved 8 injections for freezing and 4 long sessions with the hygenist.

2 - 3 days after it was over the right side of my face started swelling up. The dentist the prescribed a course of antibiotics which took care of the issue.

I now believe it is a good idea to start on the antibiotics BEFORE the "deep cleaning" session just in case something gets into your blood stream and causes an issue. Given what they are doing the odds are certainly very high for this to happen.

sorry to hear of your experience Paul ..... in my case (heart valve insufficiency) i had no earthly idea what could occur without first starting a course of anti biotics....i was informed that during dental cleaning certain bacteria can be dislodged and can setup an infection in the heart lining which is fatal & cannot be cured ......to know is everything ! tim

I have a Medic Alert Bracelet on as we speak.. My account is expired because I was waiting to order a new bracelet once I was officially diagnosed (with my other stuff.. not OSA) But now that I am diagnosed w/ the OSA I am going to put it on my new bracelet along w/ my neuropathy.. I love the fact that I can update my doctors & medication on their site.. And that it flat out tells them to call their 800 number to get all my info.. I dont always have my purse with me (I cant stand carrying things!) SO this is the best alternative for me..

My only issue is that the bracelet keeps looking funky in the front.. Like the rubber part peals away? Not really rubber but the smooth finish over the Medical ID Symbol.. I have no problems with the chain though.. and they replaced my bracelet for free for me once already.. Couldve probably kept pushing the issue, but I didnt.. I am going to try & find a better quality then their cheap 10$ one lol.

Oh & I have had a lot of Drs ask me what my bracelet was for.. so they took notice.. which is the point

A good friend of mine was told that the ER won't even look at them for "normal" young people but she just turned 30 and it appears that some how they became popular with a young group so now they are only looked at after other issues are considered so maybe having a description of your height, weight and eye color might be useful. And mention that you don't have Kleptomania.

I do. I have several chronic diseases that are much more likely to cause emergencies. I had a regular medical ID necklace that I never wore because it was soooooo ugly. Now I have a watch with bead bracelet that has the ID on the bracelet clasp. Love it. Wear it everyday, everywhere.
