This appears to be the letter the OP was referring to....

IMO, it's pretty naive to say "
this should not be pre-advertised or exposed to patients" in a widely distributed message at any time, let alone in these days of instant communication!
Cheers,
Bill

The thought occurs: that letter is saying online CPAP suppliers can not ADVERTISE less than the minimum set price. I've seen TV commercials and newspaper advertisements for furniture, etc. that say: "Sale prices so low the manufacturer will not allow us to state them here" or equivallent.
So online DME suppliers "could" advertise the equipment but NOT list the price and rather say "contact us for further information" or the patient could simply ask, "can you give me a better deal than that advertised price?"
I would think if a patient came across such a situation and got better than the advertised price, it might be wise, to protect that online DME supplier from losing their ability to sell that product, that they should spread the word privately via e-mail or PM but not out in an open forum.

There is a local DME who gives AMAZING patient services to CPAP users and loves every one. They also boast a 95% compliance rate. They have a robust supply replacement in place and all of the local doctors think this DME is the best.
Question: They bill insurance $1100 for a CPAP. This cost covers not only the equipment, but all of the costs incurred in providing this excellent patient support like 3 delivery vans, 4 RTs on staff, local advertising, patient lunches, etc.
I guess they're thiefs huh and don't deserve to bill for the $1,100. I wonder what would happen to this great level of patient care if they had to start billing $500 for a CPAP "because someone saw it cheaper online."
I say if either of the DMEs within driving distance to me could figure out how to fit me with a mask and have it NOT LEAK, I'd GLEEFULLY pay them $600 out of my very own pocket.
So where is this DME of which you speak?
I'll just be reading cpaptalk while I wait for your recommendation...
