Some of the other recording pulse ox products have been cost prohibitive for me. This is the second one mentioned on here that is more reasonable. Does this mean that like most tech products, the price lowers as the technology becomes more commonplace and with this type of item, used outside a medical setting (sports), or is there a real quality difference?

I see these neat little units online for $169 - $179. Just google CMS50E Pulse Oximeter. I love mine and have it for over a year. Have not tried uploading data to the computer. I bought it because I like to watch my O2 level and watch my heart pulses because I have PVC and PACs, both consider benign until your heart goes into fibrillation and decides to stop. Also have apnea which is under control with a CPAP machine. I have traveled with my CMS50E to keep track of things and see how I am doing.
Last summer I did a 70 mile backpack trip in Yosemite without my CMS50E or CPAP machine. I was worried about being kicked out of tent cabins (2-6 people, sometimes total strangers) and then having to sleep with the bears. Took a chin strap from CPAP.com ($25) and did not snore according to wife and friends so the chin strap saved me and proves that you can survive without your CPAP machine at least while traveling.
Hope you find this of interest. TOM in Santa Fe, NM

Hi Folks,
Well, I purchased the CMS50E Pulse Oximeter from EchoStore. I have mastered the Chinese and machines functions and was becoming very impressed. However, I just fired off the following email to Customer Service:
service@echostore.com:

I placed the below order that arrived 19Dec08 for the Wireless Pulse Oximeter (CMS-50E). I used it until yesterday, when the upload function failed. Please advise me whether you will repair the unit, refund my payment, or send a new one to me upon my return of the unit I hold.

I wonder if others have had any experience along these lines with their purchase? I have no idea how EchoStore will respond. My review of their BBB history does not provide me with great confidence for a happy resolution.
Thanks,
Dan

Can you be more specific as to "upload function failed"?

I have had several days of happy success using the instrument and the software.
Then on the instrument "settings" menu when I'd short press down to the "Upload" and then long press to have it become "on", when I release the control button on the instrument, the "Upload" immediately reverts to "off" again. See
Thanks for asking. Sorry I was not specific in the first place.

Well it could be just busted, but perhaps not.
The fact that it toggles immediately from upload=on to upload=off indicates there isn't anything in memory to upload.
I have a CMS50F but it's very similar. It only holds one session of data in memory. I can duplicate your problem by doing this:
1.) Record a full night
2.) Turn recording off
3.) Accidentally turn recording on again (this dumps the entire night of data)
4.) Realize error and quickly turn recording off again
At this point you can get the behavior that you describe.
I would try recording another night or two before sending it back, just to be sure.
I bought mine from these guys:
http://www.semedicalsupply.com
They were responsive and helpful. I haven't heard such good things about echostore.

Hey ca-hosehead,
You got it right!!! I just recorded a new session. Then I tried "Upload". It worked fine. Just for everyone's information, EchoStore replied to my email with:

did you take a look at the manual?

This EchoStore response was not truly helpful as was ca_hosehead's response that solved my issue, but I am impressed that EchoStore responded at all. Therefore, I will send them a thanks and explain what the problem really was.
THANKS

I wasn't thrilled with echostore not paying for return shipping for a replacement.
I am also not thrilled with the quality of what I got in return as it also failed in a different manner than the original unit.
I view all of this now as over $200 wasted on a broken toy, however, I was able to get one good night's use before the second one died and at least suspect my O2 levels were staying acceptable so that is worth a few bucks to me.

Glad we could get it working for you!
It's not that hard to use but it's not that easy either. If you run into some sort of wrinkle it can take some puzzling to get it sorted out.
The manual really isn't that much help.

FWIIW, I just purchased the cms-50F (wrist version)from echostore. I had a little trouble loading the software on my w2k machine, but I finally got it to work
The trick for me was to
1) connect the watch to the computer before installing software, and when it says found new device, allow it to download the drivers from microsoft
2) use the latest version of the software cm-50e.zip from echostore. My version has an application date of 11/22/07 (seen in the windows subdirectory)
I had to install and remove several times before I got the order correct.
Thank you to all commentators for detailed install notes on this machine.

Thanks Willie. I wish I had read your review before I just set mine up because it would have saved me some time. I think I can do the upload next time I work with it. I did not know it saved as a file only that has to be popped to the screen manually.
It just came today so I have not used it at night yet. I was surprised I was dropping down to 90 just sitting sometimes but hit 94-96 most of the time with a 98 peak.
I noticed the price dropped from $165 to $160 since last Thursday.
I am looking forward to working with the software.

I bought this unit as well and find it to be quite good. I had it tested at the hospital and it was accurate. I bought it for $199 at
contec_cms@yahoo.com.cn including shipping. Why not save $50 and get it directly from the manufacturer? They gave me great service.

Sorry but what's the difference between SpO2 and SaO2 ....... the former being the measurement on this device and the latter being my blood oxygen saturation level as reported by the sleep clinic? Are they the same?

Could someone who has purchased a CMS-50e lately please reply with the latest version numbers for the software as well as the firmware version displayed when you start the unit. My unit does not work with the 1.0 software and it has the .9EW firmware. It does work with the 0.981 software though. Anyone else have this issue ?

The software stated Version 1 at some point but after it is installed it reports the 9.981. The meter screen reports version 6.1 when booted to start taking readings.
