If the orexin A were to avoid the side-effects of Provigil AND fight my sleepiness, it may be a very viable alternative. Without Provigil, I am sleepy the vast majority of my waking hours. With Provigil, I am ADD and while I can actually accomplish something, it is in scattered bits and pieces...which will hopefully all come together to be finished.

Further, I already squirt saline and spray Flonase into my nose. It is an effective way of delivering several medications that are quickly absorbed into one's system. It seems to me that a nasal spray is preferable to an injection; diabetics may agree with regard to insulin delivery.

The jury may still be out, but this is worthy of consideration. From the article:

Siegel said that orexin A is unique in that it only had an impact on sleepy monkeys, not alert ones, and that it is "specific in reversing the effects of sleepiness" without other impacts on the brain.

I interpret this to mean that the non-sleepy person would not be affected by this, thus cutting the abuse potential. However, never underestimate the resourcefulness of those who would like to abuse a drug. Just think of the ridiculous things humans have used over the years.
