I don't mind paying my taxes either... but there is also a lot of people that want for the government to be their solution for everything.
"Goverment give me this.... give me that."
Like it or not the entitlements are the REAL problem.
I think it is going to be necessary to cut the entire budget and raise taxes in order to balance the budget.

Before you shut off the defense contractors, you better kick the war mongers out of the White House. Leaving our troops with rocks to throw against bullets wouldn't be very fair. Our "Clowns", put them in harms way to protect oil profits, make sure our troops can take care of themselves first. Jim

Believe me, I'm all for kicking them out of the WH, and the troops and defense contractors are two different beast.

Makes you wonder whom JeffH is voting for?????
NO... the defense budget isn't the majority of that $59 trillion debt... it is the entitlement programs. The entitlement programs will eventually take over the entire federal budget unless something is done.
Don't get me wrong, if someone NEEDS help, I believe the government should be there to give a helping hand.... but not a hand out, but for some people these entitlements have became a way of life.
There is an old saying for this, "Give a man a fish... you have feed him for a day. TEACH a man to fish, you have fed him for a life time." Point is PEOPLE have to LEARN to do things for themselves. The government is not meant to be a "provider".

Our government is too large, too intrusive in our daily lives and WHAT I am saying is that there needs to be
REAL change in Washington and not the same "smoke and mirror" economics of the past Clinton administrations nor voodoo economics either. Being in debt is kind of like being overweight, you didn't get there over night but you aren't going to get out of debt unless you get spending under control and start reducing the debt.
WE NEED REAL CHANGE IN WASHINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add bluetooth, usb port, and internet access, and Respironics might convince me to give up my ResMed
You mean you just didn't buy it because it came with it's own fire hose! Jim
Medtronics, sent me a modem to send them data from my defibulator, I'd say it might be a neat idea, but the leads they used on the defibulator are know to be defective and substandard. Maybe it's to call them with when the implant kills me.

My wife figured this one out and updated it to today's society:
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will hang around in a bass boat with his no-good buddies drinking beer all day."

Well... at least she got it right for today's society.... That's also my point.... people have lost all since of responsibility these days. They expected everything to be handed to them and they expect the government to give it them.
Next congressional bill...
"The Beer and Fishing Conservation Act of 2008"
"Upon entering any boat or watercraft for the purpose of fishing, the local municipality must provide free beer to all persons on said watercraft to provide for the conservation of fishing waters and to have a damn good time."

Ahhhh. The start of the next revolution.
The beer tax. It's gone well beyond tea!!! Do we have to dress up or can we just wear our shorts and tank tops (Yeah. I'm from California the land of tax tax tax........)
I'm with JeffH. I've never minded paying my fair share of taxes. What really pisses me off is those that have enough to pay the lawyers and accountants to avoid paying......
I've used this as an example for years -- ex-wife was bookeeper at independent microwave component rep company. End of year she'd collect up all the paperwork, ensure the books were in order and pass them on to the accountant who would manipulate whatever it is that accountants manipulate over 6-8 weeks or so then return with the form stating that the company owed $80K in taxes to Uncle Sugar.......So she'd get out the corporate checkbook and write a check for 80 grand, but in the pay to line she'd put "Pension fund".....Zero bottom line, company pays zero taxes on about $350M in sales....Something wrong with that picture??? I think so!!!!
But the loophole was there -- how can you fault "entities" for jumping through them.
I've always supported a flat tax. About 15% to 17% would collect enough money to take care of all the whiners.....No deductions for nothin'!!!! Of course then the mortgage folks would whine.......let 'em!!!!! No deductions, pay about 15% and be done with it. File your taxes on a 3x5 card!!!!!
(What did you make??? How much you got left???? Send it in!!!!!! )
And Jeff -- you are so right!!!!
It's "We the People" that demand all these services from the government, and holy cow, just try to eliminate some pork barrel service in some congressmans distrtrict......
By the same token, we Holler and scream when we're asked to PAY for said services!!!!
Sorry folks -- services ain't free, someone's got to pay the piper..... Can't have it both ways!!!!!
Want to eliminate some of the debt.
Eliminate foriegn aid. Foreign aid is fine, AFTER WE TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES!!!! Sorry if that sounds selfish, but I'm tired of my tax money going to tin horn dictators etc., that take the bucks and stab us in the back......
Take care of our health care, take care of our welfare -- take care of ourselves. Send the leftovers to our overseas friends.....Where is it in the Constitution that says we have to prop up the world??? (and now our jobs, including mine, are going overseas to our "friends")
Down off the box.......
Just a short rant - couple pennies worth......
cheers

Oh, great! Bloomberg is speculating that Fisher & Paykel AS WELL AS RESMED are prime targets for takeovers. "The Respironics acquisition ups the valuations of the sector to anyone else interested in it."

Hi, folks
Phillips has a good reputation for quality in Australia (where I live). However, they've teamed up with a Korean mob called LG in this country (don't know if it's the same in the US), and the stuff they make can best be described politely as similar to a dog's faecal matter. I have foolishly bought a couple of LG products, and one Phillips that turned out to be LG, and they were all consistently rubbish. I guess they're consistent, at any rate. So, even though I would rather buy Australian-made, let's hope that Respironics badged products continue to be US-made.
Regards,
GrizzlyBear
