They probably never had people breathing in and out on the other side of those mchines they tested.

I imagine you could use up a dozen tanks of water in one night.

Whew! Glad to hear I'm not the only one whose humidifier runs near dry in a 9-10 hour sleep session! I was kinda worried.

In over a year the humidifier has run out of water only occasionally. I have noticed an increase in amount of water used in winter with the forced air furnace going. This time of year, with it set on 5, and a 7-1/2 hour night it is almost empty in the AM. I have a Respironics M series APAP and use an Optilife interface.

When I was using the humidifier in my F-P HC-233, I never ran out of water over night, it usually had at least 25% of the water left in the morning. There were a few times when I forgot to fill it before going to bed and ran out of water. Somebody mentioned that humidifiers smell bad when they are ran dry -- mine developed a bad stench when it ran dry with the heat on.

That problem is what sent me to CPAP.com to buy a F&P HC150 add-on humidifier.
Even with that, I've only got about 1/4 inch of water in there in the morning.
But no running dry, no seal leaks, and no trying to aim water from a jug at 3 am.
