police as power source?

Tuna, if you can read this without power, could your local police, fire station, or hospital be of help, if you could get to them? And if they have a generator.
My local police dept. said to come over in case of a power outage and they could help me. Fortunately, I haven't needed to try it yet. As a backup, I have an AEIOMed Everest machine with a battery base and also a DC cord. Bought it at cpap.com. The plan would be to use it at home for a few nights and get it recharged at the police dept. during the day when the battery runs down.
I also like the idea of using a gel/AGM (absorbed glass mat) or regular car battery and adaptor and DC cord from cpap.com. Apria paid $7 for a DC cord for a Respironics machine, marked it up to $60, gave me a "discount" for a price of about $50. cpap.com sells it for about $25. I bought it at cpap.com.
