It's a possibility... do you have a hose cover on it??

Flying_Norseman wrote:Here is a thought. Could the high number for the Snore Index be caused by the hose moving over my headboard of the bed? I have the hose draped over the headboard and the edges of the headboard a not smooth. Since I think the machine measures the vibrations in the hose could excessive movement cause the snore index to go up?
It might create an occasional false snore index, but not that high.....IMO.

I don't have a hose cover. I am gonna try it tonight not draped over the headboard and see how that goes.

Well I changed the way my hose was positioned (not that one) and my Snore Index was 50.6 last night so Wulfman was right as usual.

Hi Flying_Norseman,

Sorry to hear that trial didn't help! Are Wulfman and Snoredog *ever* wrong?! I don't know what we'd do without them (and many others) on the board.

Well Mindy,

We will see if Snoredog is right when I set my machine for the 8 to 16 range Friday night. I get the impression that Wulfman thinks I am good the way I am since I have a low AHI. I could be wrong though. I don't want to misrepresent him.

Anyway, we should have a face off to see who is righter, Wulfman or Snoredog!

Ooooh - that would be a good one!

High Virbratory Index

Flying_Norseman, how did you feel physically with your vibratory index so high?

Do you feel well rested?

Yes I did. But, then again I am comparing my previous sleep quality of severe apnea to now so any improvement on that would feel better. I did some more experimenting this weekend with the machine set on APAP with a range of 8 to 16 and I noticed that my snore index was really high the short amount of time the pressure was at 10 - 12 cm. Once it got above that (most of the time) the snore index went way down to 22.

Saturday night I had my best AHI ever at .2. Last night wasn't as good due to mouth leakage but it was still relatively low at 2.8.

Flying_Norseman, your avg. leak rate is very good. I am not a doc but I bet if you can get a consistent seal on your mask you will greatly improve your vibratory snore index. It is imperative that you are not leaking through your mouth. The graph should be as staight as possible. Once you can achieve this then I would give straight CPAP starting with pressure of 11 cm/H20 with CFLEX setting of 3 a try. If that pressure doesn't do the trick, then I would try 10cm/H20. If things get worse then I would try 12cm/H2O.

Do you fall asleep within 20 minutes?

Do you take any medications?

Take care

Hi Johnny,

I fall asleep easily within 20 minutes. Sometimes in about 5 or so. I take no medications other than some Tums before bed. I will see what taping does tonight for the leaks then look into the snore index. I have a feeling that with the leaks taken care of, the average pressure will go down.
