So stiff, they belong in museum.

His witty remarks keep us grinnin'
We laugh 'til we cry
And understand why
All the folks check in just to see 'im

I once had a machine with a hose
with pillows jammed halfway up my nose
they help me to breathe
with that I am pleased
Now I look funnier in my bed clothes....

We're getting there....

How about haiku?
Those odd little asian lines
no one understands.

CPAP hose and mask
shove pillows up my nostrils
stretching at my nares

A hiaku? Yes, I
think one about a CPAP
would be most unique.

Yes, haiku is nice, but we can't leave out iambic pentameter!

Herein our paths do cross, for all who come
To this forum seek the same elusive
Sleep; the respite our weary minds so crave.
Prithee, take heart from those who’ve gone before
And did not relent despite poor counsel
From men of medicine to accept less
Than they deserved. For through their fortitude;
Through sharing each misfortune and success,
We are now armed with knowledge and support.

Hold fast good people, for as we unite
Against the ravages of wakeful nights,
The gift of promise keeps us in good stead.
Victorious in our plight we shall be
No longer cast adrift on sleepless sea.

(Okay, so Shakespeare I'm not....)

I can never quite remember the rules for Iambic Pentameter.

If you can state them concisely, I'll be happy to have a go.

Liam, who actually does like shaking his spear. Or something.

Hmmm.... the rules..... To the best of my recollection, 5 iambs per line and the emphasis is supposed to be on the second syllable of each foot. For sonnets, (which I did NOT accomplish---not enough lines...) last two lines rhyme.

I may have to go dig out my Riverside Shakespeare if you need more info....

by wading thru the muck!
plucked from the internet:

Iambic pentameter itself is a rhythmical pattern of syllables. The "iambic" part means that the rhythm goes from an unstressed syllable to a stressed one, as happens in words like divine, caress, bizarre, and delight. It sounds sort of like a heartbeat: daDUM, daDUM, daDUM. Each iambic unit is called a foot (the term foot is also applied to other rhythmical units, such as trochaic [DUMda], dactyllic [DUMdada], and anapest [dadaDUM]). The "pentameter" part means that this iambic rhythm is repeated five times, or has five feet: daDUM daDUM daDUM daDUM daDUM[da].

The final foot of the line does not have to be on a stressed syllable (daDUM). Shakespeare, among others, often ends iambic pentameter on an unstressed syllable, so that the last foot sounds like this: daDUMda. The ending with the unstressed syllable is more common in Romance languages, such as Spanish and Italian.

Holy cow! Okay, so perhaps my rules were a bit skeletal....
