I guess that makes me #18....
The stats as far as I have seen:
25% of all adult Americans (over 18) are "at high risk" for OSA. That puts the number close to 50 million people, far more than previous estimates (18 million).
OSA diagnoses went from 100,000 in 1988 to 1 million in 1998. I haven't seen anything more recent but I suspect that the number of diagnoses every year is several million. Just consider how many sleep labs are expanding and being built--it's a huge growth industry.
Number of people who should be on cpap: I've seen a number of 12 million. If there have been 1 million diagnoses a year since 1998, that would seem about right. Compliance rates are extremely low and about half of the patients diagnosed give up on cpap during the first year--the first week for that matter.

#21 woo hoo
My "rental" CPAP covered by insurance is on my nightstand/floor, my recently self-purchased (thanks to CPAP.com) was, is, still, en route being shipped (long story, but it will definitely be OUT of the closet ).
I think OSA diagnosis number would be higher if doctors didn't automatically diagnose the problem with us xPAPers as, take your pick, merely:
- depressed
- overweight
- overworked/stressed
- age-related complaints
....
As for low compliance numbers, same ignorance and lack of interest in the patient, in my opinion....
