Ha --
Hey Babs - -I got it young!!! My dad gave me a Heathkit crystal radio kit in 1957 and I was hooked!!! Occasionally you can even find one on e-bay -- it's a CR-1 and I actually built it myself at 7.....dad helped, but for the most part I did it myself!!!
I mean, you could hear stuff from everywhere...I can remember going to sleep with those old WWII military headphones on listening to things like the BBC or Radio Moscow, or South America Radio....all kinds of cool stuff.

It's like computers to me. I can tell you to the molecular level how a computer works, how they get multiple millions of transistors on a square inch of silicon, or how a radio wave propagates through the atmosphere -- but it's still magic to me. It's a fascination that's never grown old.

So. Yeah. I'm a Ham-ster -- dig the call KR6AP hee hee hee....the one the FCC gave me first was KB6DUI -- don't think I didn't get questioned about that license plate!!!!
I got my wife to study and pass her test so that she had a method of communications while she was on the trail (she rides horses). Cell phones don't work in the American River Canyon, so.......

It's a kick -- I would recommend it to anyone!!!!

cheers

I'm happy to report that after a long hiatus, I gave myself a kick in the rear and am back at the gym. I went yesterday and got on the recumbent bike for 30 min and then went back today and did 30 min on treadmill and also a little on the weight machines. This is a huge accomplishment for me since I have chronic pain. However, I am determined to lose excess weight to be healthier and maybe even get a lower cpap pressure. I went this afternoon and bought a yoga mat and will return to gentle yoga class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You use a chair for parts of it and that makes it easier for me to do. I tried regular yoga one time and lasted less than 5 min, lol. It helps me to focus on "breathing" and keeps me stretched out. Okay, hopefully, that will be encouragement for someone. Thought I'd keep this topic on the front page.

YAY LAVENDERMIST! WOO HOO! YOU GO!!!!

I'm so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sort of anxious to report that the diet book and work out system both arrived today, and I have NOT cleaned the living room and there's a half eaten bag of halloween chocolate on the floor from last night's little indiscretion...

I think I'll go eat something virtuous, and work on cleaning the floor so I can at least contemplate working out in the AM tomorrow.

Goose - You are so much like my ex-boyfriend, it's scarey. Don't get me wrong - I love him to death. But the two of us, plus a sofa sized dog and ALL HIS RADIOS in a 600 square foot apartment was more than I could take. I made him get his own place. The radios have their own bedroom right now. What I can't figure out is why he didn't put them in the HUGE master bedroom, and sleep in the smaller bedroom, but he didn't, and it's wall to wall and floor to ceiling electronics in the "radio shack".

I like your first call sign better. I'm so indoctrinated with HIS call sign, I say it sometimes instead of his name... What's worse - we both belong to search & rescue and have THOSE radios, and OTHER call signs for THAT, so sometimes I get completely confuberillated and say some pretty funny stuff when attempting to call him...

Then there's his darned blue tooth on the cell phone... sigh... Hey, do you have 4 emergency radios plus the ham going at all times in your truck, and THEN do you turn on the STEREO for music? AND THEN do you call your significant other on the BLUE TOOTH that picks all that up??? Because if there's another one of HIM out there, I'll have to come down and poke a stick into you...

Sorry, enough about Hamster-itis... Must go read diet book while eating virtuous Barilla Whole Wheat Pasta and Organic Pesto/Tomato sauce by Paul Newman.

Cheers,
B.

That totally reminds me of a dinner that my wife and I went to with my folks.....she had not been indoctrinated into my radio addiction at the time and she said something like, "we'll have a table in the corner of a room for the radio stuff"OO......My mother just laughed and said, "Oh no Donna, you don't understand".....
Mom has, seen my collection -- it sounds very similar, but nope -- not in the master!!!!! Floor to ceiling in the spare room, but never in the master.....well, except for the small ones....
Once I get my stuff all set up, I hope to have enough room to do some restorations on some vintage radios I've acquired........but I guess we should get back to dieting!!!!!

It's all good!!!!

cheers

transfats

Great thread, Babs

Gotta go to work (had lots of time, but spent it reading the *entire* thread.

I gave up (as much as possible - ie I don 't buy any with) transfats at about the time I started cpap. I think that helped reduce cravings and helped with a bit of weight loss.

The weight loss has stalled a bit - actually I think reversed a bit. I got complacent and went a bit mad on "Black and Green" organic chocolate.

Do people have any experience or views on transfats and weight loss?

must go

This thread is really helping.

Even though I'm busy at work, I'm constantly thinking of everyone else's struggle and I feel your silent support.
And, I'm sure countless people can relate to what we're going through even though they don't have time to log in and be heard.

I've always had a vane reason to lose weight, now I have a medical reason.
One of the ENT's I saw in Feb. said that weight loss "could" reduce or eliminate the Apnea. He takes the surgery very seriously and says weight loss is the first logical thing to do.

Now if I can just keep at it. I usually do really good and go overboard and make myself hurt so bad that I have to skip days at the gym. I was very tempted to do that today, but tried my best to restrain myself.

I did have a funny happen though. I was on the treadmill and the free weight area is behind me. A couple of guys were back there pumping iron and I heard a loud sound like weights droppping. I thought someone dropped the weight and hurt themselves or something. Reference to others, never try to turn around while walking fast on a treadmill. My foot slipped at the edge of the belt and the treadmill frame and made the sound of a car peeling out as I grabbed the side bar and caught myself. I could hear the guys laughing and I started laughing. A lady a couple of machines looked over at me not knowing what was going on and I burst out laughing. I couldn't compose myself and kept giggling for about 5 minutes. Well, now I can say that I've burned rubber on the treadmill, lol. The most embarrassing part of the whole deal is one of the guys back there on the weights was my dermatologist. I just love it when I can laugh at myself.

I've always found that laughing at myself are some of the best laughs of all....
But then I refuse to take myself seriously!!!! Life is far too short to be taken seriously!!!!!

Ok, time to bump this one back to the top. I did well in exercising for three days last week and then flopped the final four. I dusted myself off and got back to the gym on Monday and have been every day this week. I have done two one hour gentle yoga classes, 30 min each day cardio, and done weight machines once. If this fat doesn't start coming off, I am going to scream. I think I've got my metabolism slowed to a crawl though because I usually only eat once a day for dinner with the family and then not a whole lot. I need to work on eating better. How is everyone else doing?

Between me being sick and then my son being sick I have yet to go back to the gym Next week I will be sure to go at least twice..

Would it help if I were to eat the CPAP? Maybe this is what they meant by losing weight with the CPAP

I used to do the once a day meal deal -- not healthy, nor is it a way to take off the lbs. -- unfortunately.
I've been doing 5-6 little meals a day -- With diabetes I "have" to do 3 meals a day with a certain amount of calories/carbs, but I can also do two or three snacks, hence 5-6 a day.
Part of my issue with the once a day is that I tend to graze if I only try once a day....I get home from work (when I'm working), start the graze, eat dinner and then graze my way to sleep -- no more.

With the exercise you're doing you should shed pounds for sure!!!! But you are right, it will take a better diet...
I've taken 30 off just by portion control. Now I have to work on healthy stuff to take off the other 30+ I need to lose!!!

Good luck -- keep up the good work!!!!!

I hope you and your son are both feeling better. Eating the cpap, now that made me crack up, roflmbo. Oh, if only it were only that easy huh? lol Of course, eating a cpap may be a little hard to do, but we'd have fiber in our diet, lmbo.

You've got the diet thing down pat. Way to go! I wish I only had 30 to lose . I don't eat that much, my biggest problem is that I'm constantly drinking. It used to be Coke, and now I'm not doing that, but I'm drinking iced tea and my calories are all coming from sugar. I can't handle artificial sweeteners. I've tried to drink more water and when I'm exercising I do drink water like a camel. I want to switch exclusively to only water and I'll bet the pounds melt off. Thanks for the congrats on the exercise, but my problem is that I'm like the sprinter instead of the marathon runner. I do real good short term and then stop altogether. I need to stay motivated to keep doing it.

For sure the diet thing is a lifestyle change, not just a reduction in food and an increase in exercise!! I've got enough diet books to start a book store....

I was a real habitual soda drinker as well -- I can't stand diet sodas as they all have an aftertaste that is similar to gasoline -- and I do mean all of 'em.
What I've done as a replacement is go to the Minute Maid Light products, lemonade and some limeade cherry stuff that's pretty good. Crystal light is also something I drink. I can't stand stuff that tastes like nothing (like plain water), so I add some kind of no sugar, low calories and no carbs flavoring....I also drink the Lipton Green Tea labeled diet (tastes just like the non-diet stuff amazingly enough). The only artificial sweetener I can handle is Splenda......

Oh - -my biggest thing with "dieting".....I don't look at the scale all the time!!! Maybe twice a month (if that). Your weight changes from day to day, hour to hour, so if you keep looking at the ups and downs it can be reallllllly depressing!!!!

Anyway -- keep up the good work -- it'll come off!!!!

Cheers

The guys can learn from this site too.

Mistress Krista, the Squat Diva is really fun!

Weight training is great. I highly recommend The Firm system. It combines weights and cardio at the same time. Completely kicks my butt. They say you'll see results in 10 workouts - I see them IMMEDIATELY!

I think the myth about women and weights is totally busted, but if there are still women out there afraid of weight training - GET OVER IT! You'll never look like one of those weight lifter chicks unless you quit your job, train 17 hours a day, and take steriods.

My mom lifts every day, and she is not "ripped" - she's a healthy, curvy, size 10 who looks 20 years younger than her 65 years.

Cheers,
Barbara
