OK Mike. How many times have you said "I am never going to need to try another mask again" and then gone out and tried another?
Looks to me as though you might have done this 17 times. Is that true?
Are there masks out there you want to try and think they might work for you?

5 trials and still believing that I can be happy if only I could find the right mask

Vasily wrote:I don't think I really qualify to be in the running, since I managed a sleep lab and now work for a DME as an RT. But in the intrest of this thread I sent my daughter off on a search for all of my CPAP masks. I had to pay her $.50 a mask to do it, so my wife wasn't too happy when she came back after about 45 minutes and said, "Dad you owe me $26!". All I could say when my wife glared at me was, "Well your lucky she didn't find ALL of them!" LOL
So she found 52 masks, there are a few duplicates in there, but not many. I get demos from all of the manufacturers when they come out with new mask and take them home and wear them for a good 2-3 weeks, so that I can give my patients a first hand opinion about the masks.
Like i said, I don't really qualify, but it the look on my wife's face was priceless!!
Thanks Gasp!!!!
I should think that you do especially well at fitting masks, Vasily, given you have had access to so many AND have tried and used each one yourself.

John,
My quest is over. I love my Opus and haven't had to resort to my Activa once since I got it. I keep my hybrid handy when I get clogged up, but so far it has been collecting dust. My goal was to find a nasal pillow mask that didn't irritate my nares. I prefer the nasal pillows because they are lighter. I don't mouth breath so my only obstacle was finding one I could use on a continuous basis.
Meanwhile, I have provided a bunch of reviews on the ones that didn't quite make it for me. This is one case where technology finally caught up to me.

Congrats! I am still using my activa, have a couple more to try - have not tried the opus yet, maybe, who knows! Have a hunch the activa will be the end of my quest.
Great that you have found what works best for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never had a cigar (except for the song on the Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd Album).
Perhaps you meant to say ... Masks are like money, most people can NEVER have enough!

Maybe I could win the most masks tried in the shortest time award?
I have tried:
F and P flexifit ff
comfortful size med
UMFF size med and large
Hans Rudolph ff med and small
Swift I and II
Optilife
Bravo
NAII
Edit: OOPS, forgot Liberty
Hybrid
13 total--that makes about 2 a week. Yikes.
I've been on the hose about 8 weeks, 6 of them fully compliant. Only some of these came from DME. Others were bought used or traded, or bought at cpap.com.
So, do I get a crown too?
Jen

I think that anyone who manages to use CPAP deserves a crown, regardless of the number of masks.
This is not an easy therapy to do, and I bow to anyone who is successful with CPAP. It takes determination and motivation to sleep with all the various apparatus.
Give us all crowns! We earned them!

I second that sentiment!

Hm, I was going to be cheeky and suggest the "Obsessed with Masks" award so that everyone who had more than a couple of masks (yes you know that's you!) could share the crown. But then I read this post, and I'd have to agree!!! Crowns for everyone!
So now the only question that remains, is, just WHO is going to come up with a prototype for the first crown made up of discarded masks (and pantyhose, tape, ....)??
