I agree that if the airline is the one who is checking the bag for security reasons then they need to be held responsible for something getting lost at that checkpoint. You do not choose to be seperated from your bag....they make that happen. I am not saying that security is a bad thing, but if I let a valet park my car and it got broken into because the valet left the door unlocked I would expect that they pay for anything stolen or damaged. If airline security seperated me from my CPAP machine and it turned up missing I would expect the airline to pay for it. If they could be trusted with checked bagage maybe more people would be able to check their bags and not risk seperation and theft at the security point.

TSA: Airport Lost & Found Contact Numbers

The way I understand it, TSA (Transportation Security Administration) is a government operation, not owned or operated by "the airlines".

Its your Government that has laid on the current security checking approach, and runs the screening points, not the air carriers.
Cheers,

I have a friend that works for the local Airport, and the phone number listed is correct. That's his office number. and he was telling me since the TSA came onboard that they had more problems with theft and lost items and most of it seemed to be TSA related......go figure. don't they do back round checks of their employees.
I know they do a background check and credit check to rescue a dog or cat at the local humane society or pound.

Isn't that the truth. I wanted to adopt a chihuahua one time from a rescue shelter and had to endure questions and check points that I couldn't believe and yet they are still hiring convicted pediphiles at schools and all kinds of criminals for airport security ! WHATS UP WITH THAT?
