took machine home, need suggestions with results

I had a sleep study done in 2003 & I did not have sleep apena (but I was the same weight as I am now). It did say I had RLS instead. I have been extremely tired since 2003 until now (2008). The tiredness is much worse the last 2 years. I took a machine home to help diagnose sleep apena (it had a thing to put in my nose, a belt around my chest and a pulse ox for my finger). Much to my surprise the nurse called and said I needed to go in for a sleep study at the hospital because I snored about 1,429 times, I for sure stopped breathing twice and possibly more (including the 14 other hypothe a episodes (shallow breathing she said). She also said that the hypothe a tells us that your oxygen level dipped below 50% at least 14 times. HOW BAD IS THIS? I know it is not good to stop breathing 2 times but does anyone know how bad hypothe a is and what it means? I am going to have a sleep lab test done next week but I just can't figure out why they did not see the apena in 2003. Why would I have it now but not then. I guess I am scared to go in for another test and they find nothing.
