Hi, Board!
I've been lurking here, and on another board, for a couple of weeks, since finding out about my OSA. I am a Registered Nurse, but know next to nothing about this condition or C-PAP, so have been reading everything I can find! Thanks so much to all of you for being here, and being willing to share your wisdom! Am awaiting insurance approval and machine delivery. Have to admit I am anxious to get started. It's actually good to know WHY I have felt like I've been run over by a semi (hence, the tag...)
I'm sure I will be crying to you all before I find the perfect interface and machine. (Have requested the RemStar Auto w/ C-Flex...we'll see if I get it! )

Like many others here I'm a "professional technical weenie". I developed real-time distributed voice and data switching systems for nearly a decade before going free lance as a technical consultant ten years ago.

I was diagnosed with obstructive apnea over three years ago. While my sleep events are primarily hypopneas, that was enough to cause desaturations in the low eighty-percent range and plenty of sleep disturbances.

Jeff, I am totally crushed you didn't use a photo of yourself wearing your mask! If I can do it you can do it. Of course I've taken mine down now.....

Janelle, you lost credibility with me. I saw your photo of you wearing a mask and you did not even look old enough to be the grandmother you claim you are!

Hmmm.... that chide was also a compliment.

I NEVER said I was a grandmother (bite your tongue). I have one son (okay "WE" have) who is 32. He is unmarried. I'm 59, and in some light I look it!

Decided I'd test out the instructions that were given regarding avatar use. Did it work?

For Avatars you take take any photo file on your computer, open it in whatever photo editing program you have, go to resize and choose pixels versus inches, etc. Size must be no higher or wider than 80 pixels. Reduce the resolution if you can to 72 dpi. Save the file as xavatar.jpg/gif and then go to Profile at the top of the page on Cpaptalk.com. This will open up your Profile. Scroll down to nearly the bottom of the page and there will be a window where you can browse your C drive to find the file (you DO remember where you saved it, right?), click on that and it will show the file path in the window. Scroll further down and click Submit and that's all there is to it.

Good luck to you. We love questions and crying. So feel free to wail away. Hopefully you won't have anything to cry about once you start your treatment. But successes, failures, partial-successes -- we want to hear it all. Again, welcome to the forum!

Since people asked... Here's me and a tiny fraction of my little girl's face.

The picture is about 3 years old, but essentially what I look like now. Might be an additional wrinkle or two and maybe one or two more gray hairs in the beard, but at this size and resolution, you wouldn't notice anyway.

(And yes, I have a beard there, although I'd just trimmed it. In the larger version of the picture, you can fairly clearly see it. It's actually not a full beard, there, it's a goatee (or technically, a "Van Dyke") ).

I am currently a technical writer/policy analyst who supports a DoD agency in the fight against WMD's and their proliferation. I have been doing this for about a year. Before that, I spent 22 years in the U.S. Navy working with underwater weapons and related launching and handling systems. (No, I was not stationed on submarines. I spent 25 hours on a sub once. That was 24.5 hours too long!!!)

I am 52, 5'5" tall and 160 lbs. I have been lurking around here everyday sometimes twice a day. I just love this sight and all of you. You have all inspired me to continue on.

I was a word processor for the Department of Defense for about 10 years. Quit when I had my second child. Son is 22, daughter is 20. Thought I would return to work when my kids didn't need me. Because of health problems will never be able to go back to work. My kids still need me. I drive about 300 miles a week taking my daughter to school, etc. She will start driving herself in November. I also have a very spoiled 7 year old labrador and a yellow nape amazon parrot who is 27 years old who will probably out live me!

Been on cpap about 6 mos. Because of Rested gal and everyone I have now bought the aura. I am trying to convince my healthcare to give me the Resmed auto with Cflex.

I've resisted until now: I'm an engineering professor. Came to the USA from New Zealand for six months in 1971, stayed for another six months, etc, etc. I think I'll stay for at least another six months.

Am an avid sailor. Have a 42 ft Pearson 422 sailboat that is the second love of my life. We cruise southern New England in the summers.
