I am new to CPAP and was given the new Fisher & Paykel Opus nasal pillow mask. After a month I think I have adjusted to it but would like to hear what other people think about this mask in comparison to other masks. I was taping my mouth shut and then got a chin strap. I like something that is not too invasive.

joanneb, I love my OPUS mask. I have used the Activa, Swift, and Comfortlite II. I like the OPUS better than any of those, but, that is just my opinion. Those masks work perfectly well for other people.

For me? It's the OPUS.

Most important thing is to make sure leaks are kept in check (mouth and/or mask). For that you need a machine that is capable of providing efficacy data. What machine do you have?

I have a Rem Star M Series with humidifier. It has a software card in it.

OK, I think I have finally figured out how to take a macro photo with my camera. Her goes.

I just simply tied a piece of dental floss around the pillows and my leaks stopped.

I have tried just about every mask there is out there and the Opus is my keeper. It and the Optilife are the first nasal pillow masks that I can use on a continuous basis. On other nasal pillows I would have to trade off using them with my Activa nasal mask because my nares would get so sore.

The reason I like the Opus so much is the swivlel elbow which allows me to route the hose over my headboard. Both are good but the hose managment is better on the Opus. I did try the fix of pulling the pillows together with floss, but found that with the right headgear adjustmet I didn't need it.

The key I found was to not make the straps too tight, especially the top one. Being a side sleeper I actually pres it agaisnt my pillow and sort of snuggle my nose into it when I sleep. So far no major leaks and a light open mask.

I'm glad you gave your opinion, Mike. I have been looking at the Opus with longing, but have a similar problem with my nares. I get a new mask next month and will be trying the Opus for sure.
